View Full Version : easy rider
was fucking terrible. i cant believe motorcyclist talked me into it. at least i stole it so no one got any royalties. i would say at least i saw toni basil naked but that was just a novelty really. considering that most of my favorite films came out of the new hollywood era im def dissapointed. if i need a drug trip hippie romp across the country into inevitable death movie from now on im reaching for vanishing point. :gofurslf: hopper

It's not a 'timeless classic' and requires thinking more like people were in the time it was made. :idk:
The whole anti-establishment thing isn't really something a lot of us can relate to anymore. We're more into re-establishment now.

I never got it either.

I never did see what was so special about it either.
I found Biker Boyz to be more interesting, and would rather set my head on fire and put it out with a sledgehammer before I see that again.

Never saw it. It's on my list of movies to watch either.

Unless you're a hippy, you can't really appreciate Easy Rider.
I personally hated that flick. As was The Wild One with Marlon Brando. Marlon Brando my ass!!! It was a shitty fucking movie.:td:
dammit man i was about to try that one next! Lol

They really beat you over the head with the whole "hippies are the nicest, most generous, most accepting, most loving people in the whole wide world. Everyone else sucks and hates you" message.
I also thought it was slow. I guess when your primary demographic is going to be high you can't move the plot along too rapidly. When 15 or so minutes of a 95 minute movie is guys riding motorcycles you know they had some time to fill. I know it won awards, but I don't care.

I haven't seen it since I was a child, but I remember Electra Glide In Blue leaving quite an impression.

I saw Easy Rider a week before I shipped off to Vietnam, and bought the soundtrack on cassette tape. I listened to it at least once a day during my tour. Hendrix, Steppenwolf, and songs written by Bob Dylan and the Band. Wow.
Haven't seen the movie since, but what an impression. Motorcycles (and women) is all we talked about in Nam. Easy Rider came out a year after the biggest and deadliest race riots in the country. The movie is all about bigotry, and that's what gets them in the end. My library has the DVD and I just put a hold on it. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I guess you have to be old enough to remember what it was to be hated just for the length of your hair, in order to appreciate Easy Rider.

The movie was not a great movie, but it was a meaningful movie at the time. I guess ya had to be there. Things were not really safe and pleasant so much back then. If your hair was half way over your ears, you were a fucking hippie, period. At least to everyone but your mother. It was not that uncommon to be walking down the street and someone pull up to the curb, get out and beat the living shit out of you for no other reason than they didn't like the way you look. Some goth looking person with tats and piercings, caught by themselves, would be killed. The cops would stop you, drag you out of the car and kick the crap out of you because they didn't like the way you looked and nobody gave a shit, except your mother, who would gently tell you that you asked for it by looking that way and please conform, for her, because she didn't want you to die. Or the same cops would arrest you for disorderly and the Judge would give you a choice, jail or Nam and most figured Charlie was a safer bet. In 1969 at my High school, your hair could not touch your collar or the top of your ears and Army ROTC was a mandatory class (actually the only A I think I made in 12 years). Which reminds me, I wonder when the last time I saw a fully loaded gun rack in the back window of a pickup truck was? So yeah, I guess ya just had to be there.
Peace

Same here. When I really need some sleep I pop it in. I also think the Captain America bike is fucking retarded.
On a side note, I read Hopper signed on for Quentin Tarantino's upcoming movie Hell Rider's.

ummm.... Its Hell Ride, and its been out 12 months or so. And yes, Hopper is in it, as Eddie Zero. Awesome flick. I recorded it on dvr a year ago, and havent deleted it since. Watched it 3 or 4 times.

Just skip it and go straight for 'The Girl on a Motorcycle'.
It's moody and bizarre and has a lot similarly dated cultural aspects... but she looks good in leather and loooooves to rev that bike.

its full of blood, guts, pussy and motorcycles. You cant go wrong.
all old movies like this were really shitty, like Two Lane Blacktop. That was a true shitbox, but it was cool to see what deal's gap looked like back in the day at the end of the movie.

Easy Rider makes so much more sense when you're on acid.
Other shitty movies worth seeing, just so you know what shitty really is:
Knightriders
Chopper Chicks in Zombietown
The Rebel Rousers
Hell's Angels on Wheels
She Devils on Wheels
... and any Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello that featured Eric von Zipper.
