View Full Version : Totally pointless things you've bought for your bike?

What have you bought for your ride that you like, that others question?

I don't care if it's $5 or $5000.

Exhaust. Spent ridiculous amount of money on a slip on that basically gives me warm tingly feelings every time I look at it.

Worth every penny!

What equals pointless? Does cool only mean pointless?

I don't think so.

People look at things on my bike and refer to them as pointless all the time.

Open clutch cover to some seems pointless, but it allows the dry clutch to vent. Exhaust isn't just about sound, so not pointless. Rear-sets are adjustable so my toes don't have a possibility of scuffing the ground. Driven Clip-ons are lighter and the bars are cheaper to replace when they get "sharpened." Floating rotors don't just look good... they allow more contact on the rotor regardless of wear on the pads. Magnesium wheels are lighter than the stock. Shall I continue?

I think the only really pointless thing I have had is a cool paint job...

Yep... most pointless thing... and I think I win this "contest".

Most pointless thing would be the stomp grip.

I guess it worked till it got hot and came right off, but that's really more of a maybe. Because I can apparently ride the bike without it just as good. What a waste of $40.

Exaust wrap from under the engine to the slip on, so I dont keep melting my heel into the pipe when I shift to the left side on long straights.

I once poght a pair of fuzzy dice, and I hung one from each mirror, that was pretty stupid because the fuzzy dice just bumped into the hand controls and created a possibly dangerous scenario

People always choke when they hear about the price of my exhaust too. But the sound/look/feel of it was worth every penny. Okay, maybe not every penny....but quite a few of them.

If you ask my wife? The bike itself.

I haven't spent much on mods, as the budget doesn't allow it.

A&R Baffle Kit (stock look, slip-on sound, $100)

Sliders (a necessity, IMO)

Throttlemeister (for Sturgis and to lessen bar vibration)

Stomp Grip (mine has been through some HOT weather with no issues - don't know what the problem was with the previous mentioning of Stomp Grip).

Gear. 2-piece leathers, boots, 2 pair of gloves, mesh jacket, helmet.

I got a guard for my front fender. They say it is suppose to help with mud but I got it because I liked how it looked.

Stomp Grip (mine has been through some HOT weather with no issues - don't know what the problem was with the previous mentioning of Stomp Grip).

Try a trackday where the air temp is 107 - and it's 147 on the paddock. Then, run 30-minute sessions on said trackday. Now, tell me if your stomp grip stays where it should....

It won't.

I've had 6 customers lose theirs. Not just Tye. It's my winning choice of useless products right up there next to the reason why people buy FRAMEsliders.

Bike parts cost alot in Canada. The same setup in the states would probably cost 50-60% as much.

Pointless? My exhaust. Like I needed the extra 10-15hp.

Holy hell, 147?! My lap timer registered 108 for my last track day and I was struggling to keep sweat from running into my eyes. I can't imagine another 39 degrees.

And THANK YOU for the frame slider comment. I swear everyone thinks they're plastic savers.

It got so hot here that one time, I was sweating so much inside my helmet my breathe was blowing my sweat beads onto my visor and I thought it was rain!

That was actually before it was warmer and I lost my grip pads.

You know it's hot when the gas tank is actually making noise from pressure buildup from heat sitting in the sun.

I haven't bought anything pointless yet, because I haven't bought anything for it.

Everything I use - spools for the rear stand, magnetic tank patch thingy that hubby has now.

I want an exhaust... but I can't afford it. I can't afford much right now.

Worth every penny!

I bought my motorcycle for $1000. I bought my exhaust for $800. It's a full system Vance and Hines carbon Fiber exhaust system. It may be the very last full V&H for the CBR600 F3 ever made. They only had 3 left (only CF) when I called and I bought it 4 months after that call. My buddy always says "Look at that damn nice exhaust rolling up" whenever I come over to his place. I also tell people when they ride it that if they crash, to crash on the left side.

I bought fake CF mirrors from Ebay. Squidtastic!!!

My shit is still stock...I added the Double Bubble to help me see my Gauges when I ride B/c I'm so tall...so while its more of a Looks mod its functional for me...and I added Sliders...But I'm well aware there not to save plastic there there to Save the FRAME...

You could say my LED Kit was pointless...but Then i'll argue it helps visibility at night. ;)

Totally pointless things?

Let's see...the KTM got some aluminum blings like brake & clutch reservoir covers, carbon fiber shits.

The RS125 has more shits on it than I know what to do with.

The SR50 Factory has a racing shock. WTF does a scooter need a racing shock for?

The BMW is so fucking boring that I had zero compunction to jazz it up in any way.

The Tuono has some modest mods, although the 520 chain conversion may be considered as pointless.
