View Full Version : I fell over

And when I say I fell over that is pretty much what happened...nothing big...
Hubby and I were out on our favorite road. There was a truck that kept catching up with us and then falling behind again and since I was paying too much attention to him I just figured I would pull over, let him go ahead and then ride on. I knew there was a turnout coming up that was sort of hidden. I see it ahead, slow a bit and head for it. Where I went wrong was thinking that it was a paved turnout when in reality it was actually deep gravel. Shortly after my front wheel touched gravel it slipped out from under me and I hit ground. :td:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y47/AFIDrummerGirl/Bike%20Pics/ScratchedUp1.jpg
I am fine. Somehow I managed to hit the ground shoulder first and I guess the armor in my gear moved out of the way since I scuffed up the very top of my left shoulder a bit.
Only minor fixes to be made. Snapped off the left mirror, lens broke off my left blinker, and the corner of my windscreen shattered. The windscreen is the only thing I am super pissed about. Ordered a new one today...over $70 for that stupid piece of plastic. And that is with the discount the shop always gives me. :tt: Was going to order a new mirror also but the OEM one is $140! FOR ONE! :skep: :td: I will probably just try to find some aftermarket mirrors with the blinkers in them...we'll see...
I scraped up 5 stars but I have a whole envelope of extras so that is a quick fix. The bike had already been scuffed up by one of the previous owners so I am really not too upset over that.
Anyway...here are some pics after I cleaned it up...

Yes.

I have actually been sore since Thursday...took an intense workout class. Plus this was the first day that I really concentrated on getting my body to move around the bike...and then the fall...
I am sure I am going to be hurting for a lot of reasons tomorrow.
ahh that sucks to hear. otoh now that its out of the way its one less thing to worry about when you ride. did you get the time slowdown effect?

It really was not bad at all. Oh, and I forgot to mention...the guys in the truck that were passing turned around and came back to make sure I was okay. Thought that was nice of them. :beers:
Everything happened pretty fast.

Well, if you had used your rear brakes...oh yea.
Well, I'm glad that you are okay. My buddy low sided this morning on his 1098. I posted a site, DDM, I think that had a discount and they sell mirrors cheap. Good luck.
Ohh that sucks and I'm sorry!! Glad you are ok though. :)

Take a look on ebay for your parts. Make sure you use the "advanced search" option and check the box for "Include Store inventory"
Take care

The Miata is getting a new paint job WAY before my bike. I am really only concerned about getting the functional parts fixed.

Sorry to hear about the drop. I had one similar to it years ago on the 9R at the gap. But I knew it was a soft pull off, didnt expect mud. Mine being mud of coarse wasn't nearly as bad. Just like 3 scratches on mine. That gravel really does a number on plastic.
Put some buffing to her, some new starts, couple new parts and go on with life. Take the lesson to not let other people push you aside or rush you. Remember the lessons aren't ever over and the best thing you can do now is get back on the horse.

There were a bunch of body part listed too. I used 92 Yamaha FZR as my search words.
Glad to help :beers:

The only cosmetic thing I would be interested in finding would be a new FZR decal. Not sure if they exist of if they would be super pricey but I would not mind replacing the scratched up one.

Tapeworks I swear has one of the worst websites. I have tried to find stuff on there in the past with very little luck. :td:
It looks like they don't sell the actual logos...more like customized ones if you are switching all the logos.
Plus...
Minimum Order is $35 when ordering individual logos, shipping additional
No way am I paying $35 for a sticker! :willy:
But thanks! :beers:

Did some "free" AKA ghetto fixes today.
Grabbed some nail polish, Goo Gone, my leftover stars and some JB Weld and went to work.

Instead of trying to repair the gray sticker in anyway I just took it off. It does not match the other side but I really don't care. I think I am going to take some black nail polish to the part above where I took the sticker off too...I just have to buy more. :)
The nail polish (obviously) does not look great close up but it is much less noticeable than the huge white gouges. :beers:
I cannot bring myself to remove the FZR sticker...so it might just stay all bashed up.
Also, my license plate frame and the lens for my blinker have been JB Welded and will be going back on after they set.
I also found a new left mirror for sale for $20 and a lens cover (since mine did get pretty scratched up) for $5. :beers:

I'd venture to say something similar has happened to most of us on here. Glad you're ok and the bike doesn't have any major damage.

I'm not very fast. Plus, my main focus on Saturday was to move around the bike and get my body positioned right so I can be faster in the turns. I was slowing down a lot, getting my body right and the accelerating out of the turns.
And there was a bit more than just that truck going on. When we had stopped at the top of the hill where we usually stop to rest a Porches went speeding past...few minutes later another one...then a Ferrari...then more and more. They all had "Targa Trophy" stickers on them. These guys were basically racing.
Anyway...after we started back down the hill they kept speeding up behind us and passing us. I was paying WAY too much attention to my mirrors and since that truck was back there too I kept double checking to make sure it was not one of the fast cars.
I figured it would be best to pull over so I would not have the truck in my mirrors and that way I would know if someone was back there that it was one of the faster cars. Plus, I had been pulling over periodically to have my husband give me tips on what I can work on.
I get too easily stressed out by the extremely aggressive drivers on that road. I pay too much attention to them. This is something I know I do and something I am for sure working on ignoring more. On The ride up the hill we only past about 3 cars and only got past by 3 bikes. It is not normal for there to be any sort of traffic up there so the aggressive drivers are pretty rare. Mostly just bike ride aggressively there and they are all pretty cool about waiting until you can wave them by.

Well this explains why the truck kept speeding up getting close...probably a couple of guys talking $hit to eachother and trying to get a better look. :idk:
