'Real Housewives' cast member's fiancé dies after fight at club
ATLANTA, Georgia -- Kandi Burruss, the newest cast member of the reality show "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," was mourning the death Saturday of her fiancé, who died after a fistfight the night before.
The fiancé, 34-year-old Ashley "A.J." Jewell, also appeared on the show.
A spokeswoman for Burruss said the actress was "devastated" by the news.
"She has no statement to make at this time and asks for privacy," Tresa Sanders said. She said the two planned to marry, even though the relationship had ups and downs.
In late August, Burruss told WVEE Radio in Atlanta, "We're on hiatus," and she told Essence.com last month that the two were taking a break from each other.
Police said they contacted Burruss after Jewell's death.
Jewell and another man fought Friday night in the parking lot of the Atlanta strip club Body Tap, police spokesman Officer James Polite said. Jewell was taken to a hospital, where he died of blunt force trauma to the head, Polite said.
Fredrick Richardson was arrested on a charge of voluntary manslaughter after witnesses identified him and he was interviewed by police. He was treated at a hospital.
Police tentatively described the men as club managers, although Jewell claimed on Twitter that he owned the establishment. Polite said police don't know why the fight started.
Sanders said Burruss was doubly saddened because she is mourning the death of her uncle, Ralph Leslie, whose funeral is Saturday.
The reality performer posted messages about Jewell's death on Twitter.
"im just in one of those moods where i dont wanna talk, i dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. i just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone," she says.
"i could never n a million years imagine this happening. please pray for AJ's children. that's who im the most concerned 4."
"im bout 2 giv my swollen eyes sum rest now. i just wanted to say thanks 2 every1 for their prayers." :lol
Burruss is a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and former member of the 1990s R&B group Xscape.

If you were being a dick, would you laugh at someone who lost their fiancé because she didn't use proper english in describing her grief? I don't like 'ebonics' or 'txt' bastardization of the language either, but damn...

"Im bout" isn't ebonics? I disagree.
As for the rest of it, yeah I guess you're right, but Twitter is stupid anyway.....There is basically nothing it can do that Facebook can't.

Really, I'm with you on both l33t and ebonics - I think it's the downfall of society today. I won't reply to my daughters when they send me something with letter and numbers.
But, christ man.... she's having a bad week. A REALLY bad week.

Nothing would please me more than hearing that the RHWOA plane went down in a fiery crash. Those dumb bitches are doing nothing but fucking up the piss-poor Atlanta image that we have even more.
However, on twitter you have limits on how much you can type so you sometimes have to type in interwebneese. My guess is that is what she was doing there.
why is she on a show about housewives if she isn't even married?

This phrase is limited to ebonics?
Educate yourself on both the evolution of language and the prevalence of dialects before you spew crap.
You don't have to like it but because you don't like it you now label anything that "sounds like it" as ebonics? Ever heard someone from the south talk? Absolutely disgusting in terms of "proper" English yet widely accepted. :idk:

Not trying to be harsh.....but you really can't honestly SAY what you would or wouldn't do for sure in a moment like that.
People grieve and cope in different ways :idk:

Accepted as slang.
If someone posted up:
OMG, someone done kilt pa down yonder fer didlin with them sheep again. Thanks for the prayers, y'all!! BRB.
It would not be accepted nor acceptable.

Slang yes....but accepted.
I've yet to see the backlash against any other dialect that I've seen against "ebonics". :idk:

Did I mention any Southern slang here? No, I mentioned "I'm bout" which is a phrase that to my knowledge was created by Blacks regardless of whether they are Northern or Southern. And Black slang is commonly referred to as ebonics, like it or not. You can tell it's not just regional dialect, because "I'm bout" is used by tons of Black entertainers and rappers on TV and radio. Like "Im bout to get up out of this piece..."
Had it been a phrase that was only used by Southern Blacks, then you're right, it wouldn't be ebonics, it would be regional slang.......... but it isn't.
Or how about "Ima do this" or "Ima do that"? Or "I gotta ax you a question" ........Same thing........ebonics. That's not regional dialect.

My opinion: The type of drama queens selected to be in reality TV shows probably only care enough about their dead (on/off) fiance to the point they can't use the drama to self-promote. In other words, the event itself is an opportunity for them to get publicity and add yet more drama to their lives. I'm not suggesting this is an intentional train of thought, rather that over-dramatic people tend to live their lives in this manner.
I witnessed this type of behavior first hand when my teen-brother died from certain family members who exploited his death for sympathy...because deep down they need the drama, the extreme emotional responses, etc. We all know people like this, and if you've paid attention they are the type selected for the majority of reality TV, and especially for the bottom of the barrel productions like Real Housewives.
So, in regard to Homeslice's original post and giggle, I don't think it was extremely out of line, though of course it would be in bad taste to laugh in her face or send a laugh to her email or mail box.
