Why do some bikers greet each other and other's don't when they pass each other ? Do you only greet certain bikes, jap bikes only jap bikes or Harley's only Harley's?

I wave to all. Mopeders seem to give me a strange look. O well. If they don't wave back they either didnt see you, didn't want to wave back, or they are a dick. So with those three things you can either feel sad, heart broken, or so pissed off you whip a bitch and chase that mo fo down. Kick his sorry ass of his chitty bang bang bike. Pop his gas cap, let the fuel flow, and set it ablaze. Then a box truck stops next to you and the back door raises and Metallica stars playing MASTER!!!!!!!

must not be an advrider, it's customary to give a fellow advrider the finger instead of a wave. There's actually been some funny stories of nonadv people buying advrider bikes with adv stickers on them and them freaking out about people giving them the finger all the time.

I usually give the ADV wave....with black gloves few can tell :idk:
This gets you covered if you pass a chopper and the rider is too scared (AKA thinks he has to look like a baddass and NOT wave) to wave so YOU look like the real badass
It's funny because if you go to a rally or big event (daytona etc) you can TELL who JUST got down there for the first time evah because they're waving...whereas the people who've been there before...or newbies after the first few minutes realize...you'd be perpetually waving the whole time you're there

I'm not a waver. I used to wave. Back when seeing a fellow motorcycler meant something. I remember back when fellow motorcyclists stopped to make sure other stopped motorcyclists weren't in need of help in someway. Back when people loaned tools, helped wrench, or gave aid in someway to a fellow on the side of the road. That time is for the most part, dead. I still stop when I can but damned if anyone has checked on me when I'm stopped roadside. i had a clutch adjuster back out on an EX500 that I was fixing. I looked under the seat and no freaking tool kit. Too much tension on the cable to start the thread by hand. I just needed pliers. I probably saw 10 bikes go by in the 10 or so minutes of me monkeying around to fix it. That's why I don't wave. There's no brotherhood anymore. It's people fitting an image.

I stop now no matter WHAT the conditions, where or what I'm driving/riding.
I piss my wife off something terrible when I do that, because she's always paranoid about a trap or "bad people" but I stop regardless. One chick (didn't know it was a chick, she was built like Karl) simply needed to unchoke her carb, but the others this year I've stopped for were all waiting on a pick-up or the harley roadside service and just thanked me for stopping

I get it from all kinds of bikes (and none from all kinds of bikes). I noticed lately less and less waves as the number of motorcycles seem to increase. And in Atlanta itself you rarely get a wave because you are surrounded by bikes and scooters anyways.

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community—a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and the half-helmets—God, they drive me crazy.
You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don't wave at them, either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180-degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two-wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they've got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grampa, and while you're at it, I'm not waving to you.
Ducati guys—I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color you want, as long as it's red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.
Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I don't wave. I just keep on going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.
I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two-piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at—those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet–like I'm going to wave back to that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.
To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special?

The guy you're with in the 2nd pic looks a LOT like a much younger version of a guy I ride with from time to time.
I HATE those headlight modulators. What are they thinking?? If you're so completely and totally petrified of riding a motorcycle, get off of the fucking thing. :wtfru:
those things are so popular up here i thought it was standard equipment on new goldwings

That would be my husband. He is a member here (wideopen1) but doesn't get on very often (if at all).

well you were making a (poor) point about him not being able to ride his R1 up to it's capabilities...
so none of us are on the same bikes as Spies/Rossi/Biaggi/Haga/ect...
the talent isn't in the bike... in the rider...
so again... can you handle the bikes to the most of their potential?

No shit, my uncle is like 72 still riding his goldwing, but he's fast as hell still, I know he's been riding at least 40 yrs if not longer

That's a guy I work with up at the track. He teaches the Lee Parks ARC classes at our events at Loudon NH. Good guy. Not the fastest rider out there, but he gets that thing leaned over pretty good!
It's funny the first time you ride behind him.... big huge boat of a motorcycle... then you see his knee come out like an outrigger. He's so tall it sticks way out... then "plink", his pucks are on the ground.

Looks like his is moving off the bike quite a bit and allowing it to stay more upright, which is obviously what ya gotta do on a bike that big.

My wife and I each have a 06 Goldwings. I suspect (BTW I am no where near as skilled as the rider in the video) the reason he moves around so much is not the weight of the bike. On of the things that make the GL1800s so easy to ride is their low center of gravity. This is achieved but mounting the wide flat 6 low and forward in the frame. While this makes the bike very easy to ride it also limits lean angle so if you need more weight on the inside of the tire in a turn YOU need to put it there. As a wing owner I will tell you they are incredible machines and while nowhere near as agile as a 400lb sport bike the are incredibly agile for an 800lb machine and will spank most of the big air cooled V Twins out there.

Yeah, when she said "big" I assumed she meant it as in "wide". It's wide down low which means it's easy to drag hard parts... which he does a lot of even though he's hangin off like a monkey... A really, really big monkey :P

Yes, that and big as in heavier than a sportbike.

I've heard ppl who run the gap say that yellow wolfs video is sped up.
That they've ridden behind him, and he's fast for a wing rider, but definitely holds up sportbikes.
Any truth to this?

Something with horrible ground clearance, 600+ lbs, and an 7-ft long wheelbase, is definitely going to hold up the better sportbike riders.

Actually over 800 lbs with a 66.5 inch wheel base 3 inches longer than the UltraGlide but IMHO because of the superior suspension brake and low center of gravity much easier to handle. No it will not run with the sportbikes, but they handle ride and perform amazingly well.
I can't speak to the Yellowwolf Videos but if he is out running a modern sport bike that is on the rider not the sportbike
