Naw... can't ride too much... I'm on call and can't hear the phone when I'm riding... so I put in 2.5 hrs... no real off road as the stock tires are horrid off road in soft stuff (recently rained here)
When that guy comes back from taking a piss, he's gonna be looking for your ass.
JC
well let's hope the RR I left him calms his temper.
you traded your cbr for that?
Mr Lefty
10-17-2009, 07:05 PM
yeah.
I was tired of abusing the RR by riding it for commuting only... the roads down here suck for an SS... so I only ever rode it to commute on.
I've been wanting a Dual Sport for a while (no secret) and can't swing getting the BMW anytime soon... though to be honest... after today I don't know if I need/want the 800.
The RR was only getting 38mpg commuting at a high... this will get 65mpg.
I may eventually buy another sport bike to ride... probably track (if I can ever afford it) but I swear... I haven't had this much fun riding random roads since I was on my Indy trip last year with Trip, Fatburg, Kat, and Rae. and Never had this much fun alone riding.
I like the thought that at just about any random spot... I can take a right or left and just go...

Mr Lefty
11-23-2009, 07:51 AM
I replaced the stock tank 2gal with an IMS 4.2 gal tank... which I found out will take 4.6gal :D
now my range is >200 miles... where it was <150
also provides some radiator protection in falls... but I added some radiator guards anyways... over kill maybe... but better safe than sorry when it comes to the rads.

How are you liking it? I want a dual sport pretty badly, but I don't know that I'm willing to have it as my only bike. Adding a second bike to the garage is something my wife most likely won't allow, but I REALLY want this:
2010 Husqvarna TE630

I want something road legal that is more dirt bike than street bike. The Huskys are pretty damn expensive though.

nice thing about the DRZ over the KTM is the maintenance needs... course that's about the only thing the DRZ has over the KTM... unless you count weight!

I love the bike... easier to tour on than the RR or my ZZR... though doesn't like Highway speeds... though I'm swaping in a 16t front sprocket (15t stock) so that'll help. and I'm putting on a full system exhaust and jet kit. so shouldn't be too bad.

JCI did look into that, and while it does look like a badass bike, the maintenance schedule is through the roof! The Husky is lower maintenance. The smaller dual sports both from KTM and Husky are MX bikes w/turn signals on them, hence the insane maintenance schedule. The Husky TE 610/630s are big and heavy, but there's a lot less maintenance. I don't want to be changing oil every day I ride it.

the DRZ still requires an oil change every 1000 miles... but it only takes 2quarts and 10/40 oil is cheap. just sucks on long trips to have to pack oil, oil filters, and crush washers with ya.

no... no I won't. I got the bike in Oct... rode the Honda all summer last year... I was over it. The RR is a great bike... i'm just over riding like that on the street. actually just had my 15k service, they said everything is amazingly clean... the valves were still on the tight side of the tolerances...

but mine hasn't given me any issues thus far... I re wired from the rectifier to the battery with larger gauge wire (12g rather than 8g) and threw in an HID headlight(35w vs 55/65w) also swapped in a LED tail light (3w vs 10w). and even when running my heated grip wraps on the way up to Omaha (22w) no issues... oh had my GPS hardwired running the whole time...
I wish I had a gauge or something to tell me how many watts I'm using at any given moment. I think the stock Stator is like 180 or 200... but the bike itself(lights included) uses all but like 20w...

yeah, after putting as much mileage as I have this year on my fiddy. I really want to get a motard. People run 250s at nashville and other tracks that are somewhat tighter. So I may try a return to the track with a motard. I have much more fun on my fiddy than I ever did on the 600rr. I have the GS for service roads and the WR will be much more perfect for technical dirt than the DRZ ever will be. If I would of never got the GS, the DRZ would of been a better fit, but I got the GS.
