Have one on a local forum right now saying his 08 Busa, with exhaust and a downloaded map are capable of 346km/h, or 217mph.

Apparently I should believe him because he says he has a gps.. What are they thinking? Do they not realize that it's a motorcycle website? You're not talking to your neighbours 16 year old son. Most of us know the difference..

I hold people to the same standard online, as I do in person.

I don't like liars. It's one thing to embellish a story, it's another to be totally full of shit.

I'm just gonna argue as he digs his hole.

And ultimately, I'll believe it when I see it.(or get someone of respectable nature to tell me it's the truth)

Assuming the bike has been "delimited" from the stock 186mph circuitry (which isn't that hard to do), properly geared, a 217 mph Busa is not outside the realm of possibility.

I rode a stock 2000 model to 190+, and it still had legs.

Most GPS's have a top speed read out page. Ask for a picture.

Sport rider got a first gen Busa to 202mph with a turbo kit. 217 takes alot of power.

A stock(other than pipe, PC3/5 and timing mods) should do around mid 190s, I doubt it would hit 200.

Best one was the guy who watched me dismount my bright blue ZR-7 (with its big white Kawasaki written across its tank) and asked "is that a Harley?"

Was it leaking oil?

With the right gearing (17/40), and a long enough road, a stock 1st gen. Busa could theoretically hit 216.

Would it have the ass to do it? Theoretically I could pedal my bicycle with the right gearing up to the speed of light. But as of now I'm lacking the leg strength.

2001, but they were never really detuned, they had speed limiter installed. About six months later, a guy came out with a bypass for the limiter.

Considering the second gens have 20 more HP stock, and better aeros, it should have a higher top speed, but it will only do mid 190s without the limiter.

http://www.superstreetbike.com/features/0901_sbkp_200_mph_or_bust/index.html
http://www.superstreetbike.com/features/122_0336_maxton_200_mph_plus/index.html

The amount of horsepower required to overcome aerodynamic drag rises as the cube of speed. Consider this: 160 hp is enough to push a stock Hayabusa to nearly 190 mph, but it would take closer to 225 hp to get that same bike to 200 mph--65 more hp for just 10 more mph on top. Going 200 mph on a production-based motorcycle is a huge accomplishment--indeed, there are only 42 riders in the East Coast Timing Association's (ECTA) elite "200-mph" club.

I rode a stock 2000 model to 190+, and it still had legs.

190mph on the speedo is probably and actual mid 170s-180, depending on the gearing.

In stock trim, yes.

Brock's got a 2008 up to 202.5 MPH with mapping and exhaust, in stock gearing.

http://www.dragbike.com/dbnews/anmviewer.asp?a=3529&z=9

So, while it seems unlikely that some unknown dude on a motorcycle forum actually got his to 217, I'm still not ready to concede that it's not possible. 30 miles of open road, geared to the moon, with a 120lb. rider? Who knows?

You're such a fucking buzz-kill.

But you're right. I have no idea what my actual speed was. All I know is, I saw an antelope about a half mile ahead, and I hit the fucking binders like my life depended on it. When I looked down, I was still doing 185 (indicated) and I have to figure I was going at least 5 mph faster than that when I hit the brakes, so my story is 190+, and I'm sticking to it.

As a boat owner you should know by now that many of your fellow boat owners use boat specific terms in order to give the impression they know what they are doing. Knot is one, but other common examples are port, starboard, galley, and head (different from boat-head). If your boat has one of the pitot tube fed spedos they are pretty useless. Depending on the boat and your desire to know they make spedos that connect to a GPS antenna and give you a true speed.

Yep I know all of those terms but don't usually if ever use them. You're right about some of the other boat owners...some here try to make it sound like they are out in the middle of the ocean piloting a cruise ship or something. Ok Skipper you can take the Captains cap off now.

My wife took a boating course this past summer because I told her she was only a First Mate and NOT a Co-Captian until she took and passed a course.

Now that she's taken it she likes to say port...starboard...etc. and I usually say "just freakin' say left and right !!"

My boat is only 23' and we only boat on Lake Norman here in NC so no real use for most of that 'boat talk'. Sure it's a good sized lake with over 500 miles of shoreline but still...just a lake.

I've been boating on this lake since 1998 so I've got it under control.

Running 60+ in a 23' is pretty good. I've gone around that in a few different boats between 22' and 34' and the 22' demonstrated that size does matter.

There are a few companies that make them (Livorsi, Gaffrig, etc.), but for what you are doing I couldn't see it being worth it. I think they generally run $500+ for the gauge and antenna.

Yeah THE VERY DAY I picked my boat up I was feeling kinda good...had the loud exhaust on...cruising down the lake with my racing graphics on the side...23' with a 2' swim platform making it actually 25' long...yep feeling quite good.

Well guess what ? They were having a Poker Run that day put on by these guys... www.pokerrunsamerica.com and all of a sudden about a dozen 35' to probably 47' Twin 1000 + cubic inch supercharged vessals came flying by in the opposite direction !! There are plenty of boats on this lake nicer than my little boat but I just didn't expect to see this the day I was picking mine up.

Oh and yes...size does matter...my 23' is a lot smoother than my 20' that I had but is still nothing compared to a friends 27' and another friends 33' toy.

When the water gets rough in the afternoons from the wind picking up and heavier boat traffic in general you can really tell.

I am amazed at what people are doing with the big boats but wouldn't want one myself. The 23'-25' range is perfect in my opinion. I could buy a new 25' every year, burn it at the end of the season and I would still come out ahead compared to what the big guys spend just on maintenance. Even running GPS, especially in the mountains, you can get some crazy readings. I was riding around Lookout Mt by Chatanooga one time and got a reading of 300+ mph on my VTX (yeah, it's a fast bitch  ). I was in enough of a valley that it lost the signal and when it reaqquired it gave that crazy reading!
