Well, ladies and gents, after selling the gix and pushing and pulling money from here/there, saving, and bargaining, I found this in my garage today:

Yes, it's a cruiser. No it's not an ordinary cruiser. I can still have fun on this little rocket while being comfortable for a daily commute as well. Bike is real clean and just needs the carbs synced. It's ridable as is, but it hesitates off the line and at low RPM and light throttle. Gonna swing it by Honda of Houston Thursday and have the carbs adjusted and synced. This is a great little bike and very affordable!

That is all.

You aint lyin. Feels weird being on a cruiser but before the gix, most of my road miles were put on my Dad's 99 Magna. I loved riding his so I figured, return to what I know.

well then... just chop the subframe, put a flat handlebar on it... paint it flat black... and ride the piss out of it trying to keep OSP from jack'n it!

I'm thinking, chop the pipes to the headers, put fur all over it, lower it to .5 inches above the ground, and stretch the swingarm out about 3ft. Yes. That sounds delicious!

Are Mags V4s?

Yup. 750cc V4. Almost the same motor as the VFR and like the VFR, it was derrived from their race motor.

That's really nice! Enjoy!

Thanks!

I learned to ride on a Magna. They are nice bikes. Long throw from first to 2nd gear, if I remember correctly.

Maybe the older ones. The 750's 1-2nd could actually be a bit larger. They're really close together. but what do I care? This thing revs to 10 g's! It could use a 6th gear though. Oh, well. For 3700 bones, I ain't complainin!

Oh, and I asked my buddy how much the dealership charged to sync up his carbs on his 2004 599: over 500 bucks!!! Screw that. I know a guy with gauges. I'll do it my DAMN self.

No doubt. The stock pipes were gutted to make the bike louder, but I don't think the carbs were ever adjusted to make up for the loss in back pressure. I'm going to try stepping up the main jet to a 105 and shimming the needle 1-2 clicks and see what that does.

What year is that beast?

Audiomechanic
04-23-2008, 03:41 PM
2000. Bought it with just over 6000 miles on it. That's not a lot of miles for an 8 year old bike. I'm also thinkin the carbs might be dirty. Gonna run Sea Foam through a few tanks and see what that does. Based on how dirty the chain was, I'd guess that the only thing this bike ever had in the way of maintenance was an oil chane every now and then. Other than that, it just had gas put in it.

My guess anyway.

ahahaa and i've got your leathers, bet you're regretting selling them now!

glad to see you've got a bike again!

Now wouldn't I look funny with full leathers on a cruiser. :bonk:

Naw, it's cool. Lookin to get a new mesh with some back support. Being on this thing is reminding me how bad my posture is.

Is it odd that I am faster on this cruiser than I ever was on the SS bike? I'm taking sweepers and technical turns faster and with more confidence than I ever did on the GSXR. Interesting.

Mr Lefty

are you REALLY faster or do you just FEEL faster? you may be more smooth... which translates to feeling faster. :idk: how do you know your truely faster?

Cause I glance at the speedo. This thing seriously handles like it's on a rail. Obviously it's not a faster bike than the 1000 nor does it corner as well, but I think my ability to handle this one far excedes my ability on the 1000. I was scared of the 1000 because it was so unforgiving and technical. The Mag just let's me do whatever the hell I want to/with it and it obeys without question.

I'd love to track this thing. I know one other Mag owner that tracks his. Might have to save up and meet up with him next season. I'm broke this season as I'm saving for my wedding in October.
