Need guitar recommendations

Alright, it looks like I'm getting a serious jones to learn to play the guitar never have before bib I want to learn, so the first thing I need to do is buy one. I don't really know Anthony about instruments so I'm goin to the well. I need a decent acoustic that can plug into an amp and keep tone, and that's about it. I'll end up buying another eventually, right now I need a learner that will give me enough quality not to screw me up practicing. So what would you guys recommend? I'm not buying one for awhile so it'll be saved up for allowing me to drop more coin on it. Give me what you would buy and why. Thanks iin advance for the help.

I'd have to disagree with that.

"Student guitar" screams cheap piece of crap to me. You'll be hard pressed to find one that has a decent action, (how far the strings are above the fretboard, low is good, high is bad) so it will be harder to play, which leads to the guitar sitting in the corner due to frustration. Saving money on a guitar you're not going to play, is a false economy.

You'd be better served buying something half way decent, and more playable. There are several guitars that can be bought used, for 300-400 bucks, that would fall into this category. I could write an entire thesis on what to look for, but that info is already out there on the intertubes.

As far as Acoustic/Electrics go, I'd pass. Unless you're planning on touring Holiday Inns, you don't need one. You won't get a real rock sound out of an A/E anyway, so why bother? Worry about the basics first, and then get an electric later, if that's way you want to go.

Ok, there you have a point. I just know a ton of people who have bought high end musical instruments only to leave them in the corner to collect dust once the novelty has worn off.

I look at it this way, you could spend $150 on a brand new "Beginner Guitar" that's really not well made, and then try to sell it later, for maybe $75 -or- you could spend $300 bucks on a used guitar someone else paid $600 for, and if you lose interest, you can still probably get most of your money back.

Screw that acoustic bullshit. The strings are to far from the fretboard if you really want to shred. You want a mahogany body, maple neck, neck trough the body construction strung through the body for extra sustain, ebony fretboard with extra jumbo frets,an EMG 81 bridge pick up, EMG 89 neck pick up wired for volume, volume, tone with a 3 way switch, and Dean Markley Blue steel .10-.52 strings. Oh and get yourself a good TUBE amp with no pedals or stomp boxes. :luck::bp:

Amorok, I have an Alvarez electric accoustic that I've had for years. It's got really good sound as an accoustic and was really impressive thru an amp too. It has the pickup under the bridge so it looks nice and clean. Now granted I got mine back in the late 80's so I don't know what they're running now but it was a great guitar for the money then. Check them out.
