I would second the bandit/SV, but also add the Honda CB1100 if you can find one.
Are you looking for old and simple, or just a cheap all around great bike. If that is your criteria, then look at the VTR1000 and ZRX1100

Something to which I can bolt some hard bags, also.
How are the older, non-faired, 4-cylinder Goldwings on maintenance?
Once you get to that kind age....
Maintenance is tough to predict

Sit-up straight, standard style motorcycle. 1970's, 80's, possibly early 90's. No sportbikes.
I bought a CB750 new in 2003 and rode it until this February. Probably the best all-around motorcycle I've ever had, but if I get a new standard, I'd like another flavor.
