"When 6-year-old Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer, she began hiding hundreds of little love notes around the house for her parents to find after she was gone. Here’s the story:

Just before her sixth birthday, Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 135 days to live. She lived 255 days, passing away in 2007. After her death, Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith, found hundreds of notes from Elena hidden around the house — in between CD cases, between bookshelves, in dresser drawers, in backpacks….

"It just felt like a little hug from her, like she was telling us she was looking over us"

Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith Desserich, have now published these notes in a book called Notes Left Behind to fund a non-profit organization The Cure Starts Now dedicated to fighting pediatric brain cancer.

I would TOTALLY lose it after finding one of those notes if (God forbid) I were in their shoes. I'd be a puddle on the floor at that point.

Fuck. I need to go home and hug my daughter now.

Wow. What an incredible gift. They'll be finding those for years to come.

Wonder if she thought that idea up on her own.

man, read the comments on the story. They go off on this story and the parents. Asking how the parents couldn't of found the notes before the girl died.

It's like everything on the internet. Somebody will argue a point even if they don't believe it. Just so they're not "wrong"..

Right. Because they couldn't have been busy before their DAUGHTER died.

UGH... I agree that I would be a puddle of goo after even finding one.

I read this story earlier today, and also noticed the comments people left, and was DISGUSTED by them. If it were my baby dying of cancer you can count on the fact that house cleaning would be the last thing on my mind. I would do everything I could to just make her time fun. And they were HIDDEN. Oddly enough hidden usually means "not in plain sight." Ugh People are stupid. But this story is... bittersweet.

The minds of children are just amazing. I think we underestimate them a little too much sometimes.

It is touching and heartwarming and if they have nothing nice to say they should follow my moms advice and say nothing at all. People are stupid,, that is all there is to that.

It's a shame they grow up to be teens and adults that then leave stupid hurtful things as comments on stories like this. What's the matter with people?

Contrary to what many religions will tell you, it would appear that we are born with morals, love, and decency, and if anything, seem to lose some along the way.
