View Full Version : White folks, when you tip...

Do you round it to the dollar?
Does your total get rounded to the dollar?
Different when paying cash or credit?
Ex: If I get a $41.18 bill and service was decent, I'll leave $8.82 as a tip so the total comes out to $50.00
When paying by CC (99% of the time), I round every tip so that the total equals a whole dollar.
You?

Hmmm...
If it's cash (which is rare), then I round up.
CC (most of the time), nah, I tip in full dollars; not worried about the total being an even dollar amount. I used to, but for some reason, I got away from it.

Cash, I tip up to the whole dollar so I don't have to worry about getting change back. CC, I don't care if it comes out to an odd number.

Always. It might be since I dont keep track of what I spend, I just use online banking which can sometimes be a day or two behind and this way I can still know almost exactly what I have in my account.

Too much work going on in that mofo. If it's cash, make it round, but if it's CC why does it need to be rounded?

But with CC, that forces you to do some math to figure out what kind of tip would produce a nice round total.
Fuck that noise.
I have "black tippers guilt" so I do the work.

Yeah I saw the edit after I posted.
You complained about "some math."
Calculating the tip = math.
Adding the tip to the bill = math.
The only way to not have to do some math is to not tip.

Mmkay......taking it too literally methinks. "More work" to me = calculating a tip that would make the total a round number. Like if the subtotal was $16.31 then you have to calculate $3.69 in order to get the total up to a round number. Why not just leave them $3 or $4? After all, if it's a credit card, the server doesn't care whether the total is round or not --- He or she is not being forced to carry around extra coins in his/her pocket.

Its also a personal preference of mine for all bills to be nice simple numbers.
Makes balancing the checkbook and working out financial crap so much easier at the end of the month.

Hahahaha.
What's the percent Jews tip?
7% If youre a jew you would laugh.
I stopped rounding up when I switched my account so that the rest of the dollar goes to a savings account. So If I pay 42.18 and I want to give an $8 tip my card is charged $50.18 and an extra $.82 goes into my savings. It doesnt sound like much, but it adds up. Last year it put almost $700 in my savings and it happens in such small amounts that I never realize it.

Establish that the bill will be split evenly.
Have established bill "worker-outter" do the numbers.
Guess who is not the "worker-outter" and who will be kept as far away from the check as possible?
Otherwise...its one person yapping about the bill...."Well I only had this...and we should get seperate checks....blah blah blah" and a table full of people muttering under their breath...

Most machines here just ask you the tip amount so I just put in an amount. Screw trying to make it a whole dollar.

I always leave a tip that is $x.00. My other bills (mortgage, utilities, etc.) don't end in $x.00 so I don't think having restaurant charges end that way would greatly simplify account balancing. Even less so since it's all done with a program.

Tipping with change tells the waiter/waitress that you're cheap/a stiff.

No, I give them an whole dollar amount. To me, it's like leaving pennies on the table if I give them 8.82 so I'd rather just give them the full 9.
Tipping with change tells the waiter/waitress that you're cheap/a stiff.
Thats why when I tip badly I leave a written note on the reciept explaining why I put 2 pennies (my $.02) in an upside down glass full of soda in the middle of the table.
If you are wondering how I get a full glass of soda upside down, I have a small piece of thin plastic that I have in my car, put it on top of the glass, flip the glass, and pull the plastic out. Then wipe up any spillage and hope that the table is truly flat and the top of the glass is also flat or it will spill all over you. I've only done it 2x and it worked fine both times. And yes i am a dick.

Well I don't care, I 'm answering in this thread! I round up, for some reason I thought it would just be easier for me to, though now I don't know where I came up with that faulty logic  I never carry cash so I always charge it.
Well the past 2 days I have been sitting in with my friend Sarah (white girl) at the black jack table to try to learn how to play. I must be the only asian that can't add. Anyway today I sat down and the dealer started saying that the kind of people that sit at the Pai Gow table do not tip. Which i realized were all asians. And then random asians that are regular would come, sit down and leave, and when they do he would say how they don't tip. Then i started to get this feeling that my kind were not wanted there since apparently most of us don't tip and I was prejudged before I even sat down. He's probably like "oh shit, this asian girl isn't going to tip me. UGGGGHHHHH!"
When I left I realized that it was pretty inappropriate how he was trash talking and was probably trying to guilt people into tipping him. Which Sarah did end up tipping him significantly higher than she did anyone else yesterday so I guess it worked.

Is that how much they are suppose to give to God/Church? I thought it was 10% or so. I don't know enough Jews to get all of the jokes besides the straight up stereotypical ones I hear from a morning talk show host who is Jewish.
We need a racist/sexist/homophobic/heterophobic/anti-christian/et al joke thread with one hell of a disclaimer in the beginning.

I've gone out to eat thousands of times in my lifetime and have yet to see a person do this or put a stack of single dollar bills out on the table and remove one each time they're unhappy with their server.
Yet either or both of the actions are claimed in every internet thread about tipping.

Because they help you win or lose. They either give advice or stop short of taking up your cards when you've done something dumb. Once I forgot to tip and I made a boneheaded move and right as I was saying "wait, no no!" the guy was looking at me and shaking his head as he turned a card that busted me.
