"The Nielsen Co. reported that just last year, the average American watched four hours and 49 minutes of television each day."
:?: Who the hell has that kind of time? So you come home after work, and just sit there for almost 5 hours? What about shopping, working out, cooking, cleaning, surfing the internet, reading, having sex, etc.........
The only explanation I can think of is, most of these people must be leaving their TV on while they're doing other things? I certainly fucking hope so. :skep:

The level of obesity in America would seem to corroborate Nielson's numbers.

It's a tough call. My tv is usually on, I rarely watch it. It's more of a white noise thing with me. At the very most, I watch about 1 hour a day on average.
Do the people they give those stupid monitoring boxes to do the same thing??

I just starting watching TV again. Its usually on though for a 2-3 hours and half that time i am on the internet or studying and occasionally housework.

I have 4 shows I watch each week.
Otherwise, it's just background noise. They don't make 35 hours of decent TV to watch a week. :hitfan:

Besides football and MC racing I would be hard pressed to watch 5 hours of TV a month

But you're from Canada. Hockey isn't in the mix? :poke:

I'm the same way, the only time a TV is off in my house is when I'm not home. Even when I sleep, I need the noise or I keep waking up.

What is your electricity bill? I hope your tv's not a plasma.

I'm watching Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory right now on my DVR. I'm doing this while using my laptop on the couch.
If I want I can have sex on the couch, use my laptop and what tv. Its all about the multi tasking.

I usually leave the TV on in the background while tuned into the news while I cook, clean up, get ready for work in the morning, work from home, etc. I could see it maybe being on 4-5 hours on a week day, but that doesn't mean I'm sitting in front of it and watching that whole time.

While reading this thread I looked up and realized I was "watching" an infomercial for some leaf blower/vacuum. I'm terrible for leaving a TV on just for noise.
I get up around 6am and turn on CNBC. I'm rarely even in the same room as the TV. The Neilsen survey takers phrase the questions "Is there a TV on in the house? What channel is it turned to?"

Good grief... almost 5 hours????
Even as background noise my tv isn't on forore than 2 hours each day and even THAT is a stretch.
I watch 2 shows: "House" and "Castle" (cuz the chick on there is smokin'").
I also turn "V" on but I can't sit down and watch a full episode so far.
5 hours... Holy crap!

The panel members actually have a box hooked up that measures what they watch and how long.

Don't be fooled by my avatar I'm not an Obamaphile, he is a puppet and will probably be the reason for the first true American revolution once he collapses our economy. Hell in the last few weeks Fox has all but said they are the communication arm of the GOP. So much for fair and balanced. You should also check out this video to see how 'reliable' Fox is and how Jon Stewart (admitted not the most unbiased anchor) busts them out for sewing together footage to make there story better.

Sorry for the rant I just like people to see both sides. I also watch Fox, but I take it with a shaker of salt and do some independent research before I form an opinion on anything they have to say.

Me too especially at night. I need some kind of steady racket in the background to fall asleep.

I might watch half of that...in a week. That is including the TV's use as background noise (i.e. the news while I get ready for work).

My dog will probably watch 5 hours of Animal Planet everyday. I'll sit on my bed doing homework or surfing the web and I click it on to Animal Planet which keeps my dog occupied for a long time. Plus he jumps around and tries to catch the gazelle as he watches so he's at least getting excercise.
I'm amazed it's only 5 hours a day. Guess it takes longer to get smokes and McD's than I thought.

I'm not sure either.
I watch Fox every weekday day dipshit. The schedule I posted is what Directtv in CA airs. I don't know where you live or what airs over there, so put your tail back between your legs.
Gretta at 6, Hannity and 7 and Orelliy at 8. Beck comes on at 11pm here, not at 5, though I wish he would.
It's probably just a rumor...
