of the unemployed soon.

got my notice a few weeks back, i'll be laid off as of 12/31, so starting my job search now.

we're already down from 4500 employees early last yr to 2800 currently, co. is letting alot of people go over 1k within the next 3-4 mos

next door neighbor works at same co, his last day is 12/24

merry F-in X-mas.

sucky is that he's the sole breadwinner, and makes 6-figures.

luckily for us Z has a good job and we'll keep our heads above water, but it sucks nonetheless.

we're debating on whether Z should concentrate on school and take all the classes next semester (3 more classes till she finishes her masters) or work an extra days or 2 a week and take 1 or 2 classes and finish in the fall

we'll be taking april outta daycare as no need if i'm at the house.

heck i gotta make $15+/hr (after taxes) just to clear daycare and unemployment.

first time i've ever been unemployed, and engineering looks pretty bleak, 8 job titles for my type of work in TX and really only 2 of those apply on monster.com

for pauldn, we're still debating on keeping the cleaning lady.......:moon: we're not that desperate yet........lol

Sorry RacerX, that sucks.
At least you are in a position where Z can carry the financial burden.

However...this may be a great time for you if you will be taking care of the kids. Its a lot of work, lot of fun and you will cherish the time you spent with them.

thanks, i've thought of that too......what sucks though is there are some jobs, but they are outta state or even outta country and hopefully it won't come to that. though i've let my supervisors knows that i'll be willing to take a field assignment.

3 people left my old co. and joined this current 1. 1 was laid off 1 mos ago, i'm getting laid off, the other is going to russia 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off......

my neighbor is trying heavily to get a job in St Louis, where they came from before this job. and being the housing market is also down there's no way he'd be able to sell.

He is a fat engineer.

Can you take courses paid for by unemployment? Might be a good time to look into expanding your skill set.

 :lmao:

Sorry Ed had too

If you weren't so rooted in fuel I'd say move up here, but from the last numbers I heard, Charlotte architects are at 40% unemployment with engineers running close behind. I'm just very blessed to be as busy as we are (for now)

Sorry to hear that. I hope you find something soon. The silver lining in all of this is you are getting plenty of warning. At least they didn't blindside you.

hey ed, sorry to hear it. i was in the same place a few years back,(i'm elec design as well) what worked for me was going back to school for mech design. suddenly you are an asset to companies because they are trying to join the two so they don't have to pay for a mech and elec dept. just a thought.
find out which mech package is prevalent in your area and get a few classes in it. lots of times unemployment office will pay for retraining.

best of luck

:lol

yeah, i;ve thought of that......this is the first time in my life that i expect to be unemployed for any length of time, let alone the whole family resposonsibility stuff.

i think you can collect unemplyment for liek 11mos total now, and the gov't does give you the opp. to retrain some more so i may just do that.

Troy, keep an eye out , both of us really liked your neck of the woods and if there was anyplace we'd move it'd be to NC

Sorry to hear it, Ed. Especially around the holidays. Sucks balls. At the very least, you have a decent notice; at least you didn't find out about it as they are walking you to the door.

Good luck with your job search.

well at least my next door neighbor who's last day was supposed to be 12/24, is getting a field assignment to Woodriver, IL. and he's good till feb. '10, 2 more months not being on unemployment for him.

got a couple good leads, but they're not hiring till next yr.
