Ok guys, managed to get out in a blackhawk the other day, so I figured I'd share some pics from the ride and around the base.

The country is actually really beautiful. Just a lot of run down buildings, and trash on the side of the road.

what you can't see in the pics is that most of them only have the main floor finished. They leave the upsairs incomplete for tax saving purposes.

Got some more pics for you guys.

Buddy of mine "checking things out"

Another "kosovo Harley"

Yes, that car does have a circular saw built in to the back. It also has a chain saw right behind the driver.

Me and my bud throwing in the shocker.

Other guys in the squad.

OMG. It's all so... so... GREEN!! :panic:

Great pics, man. Glad to see I'm not the only person under the rank of E8 who has an M9. I have an M4, too, but unless I'm outside the wire or at the range it stays in the vault.

ETA: What's your patch? I can't make it out very well in the pics. I'm weird, I know, but I like seeing all the different patches I find in the Army.

They were a huge WTF the first time we saw one, now it's just another vehicle on the road. :lol

Wonder what kind of mods GMan could do to one of them?

Yeah, similar climate here as Southern SD, IA area. Coldest we saw was about 10 degrees, we had snow often, but never lasted more than about 10 days.

As for the 9's, all our SAW gunners dual carried through training, but once we got here, they carry 9 only.
The rest of us that spend more time running around than out patroling got issued them as well. I have a M4 w/CCO in the vault, in fact I get to go qualify with it again on the 30th. :rockwoot:
Really, I think everyone here should be carrying 9's, as there is no reason to have anything more than that with our current state. The local police force takes care of everything, we are strictly a visible presence.

Below are the pics of the patch.
The first is the current ghey ass one we are forced to wear on this deployment. They are talking that we may continue to wear it when we get home too :td:

The next one is the tried and true ND patch. This one is recognized across the Nation as belonging to ND and excellence will be shown by those who wear it. It killed me to have to take it off and put on the new one.

Archren
03-23-2010, 05:36 PM
Ok, I recognize the second one for sure.

I was worried when I first found out we were going to change patches... but I like our new patch better than the old T-patch we were wearing before. Now if only our Brigade wasn't so full of raging douchebags, I might actually be proud to wear the damn thing as my combat patch.

Cutty72
03-23-2010, 05:42 PM
Yeah, see what I mean! The "old" ND patch is recognized!

And I agree, not sure if I would wear it if they did allow us back to the old one and authorize our current as a combat patch.

Archren
03-23-2010, 05:55 PM
This is our Brigade patch. I like the design. I just don't like how the unit has totally undermined any meaning behind wearing it.

It's not a picture of me. It's a pic I found in one of 13th ESC's PAO articles of one of our PSD guys. It was high enough resolution to get a good close up of the patch. It's 1 am here, I'm not about to go rooting around for my camera in the dark just to take a picture. :D

Lucky people, I gots the arcent patch, while historic, dating back to WW1, with combat in WW2, Desert Storms 1-5 and now Iraq and afghanistan, it just looks kinda cheesy. I want a combat patch with some ohfmph behind it. I want my 101 patch back (was originally awarded it then they took it back because I didnt report directly to 101).

On my last Afghan tour, I was awarded combat patches from both the 82nd and 173rd. I wore them both proudly, partly because I'm an AF guy, so wearing ACUs with combat patches is a really cool thing, even though I can never wear them back at my home unit.

More than half the time I dont even bother wearing all the neat stuff that goes on my acu. More often than not the combat patch, but the last time I wore all the dangly things on the left side was a few years back

The phoenix patch is my unit patch as well. I can wear it as my combat patch, although since our Brigade is part of 36th ID, we are also authorized to wear their patch (the Texas T-patch).

Although I wear my combat patch from my first deployment in 2004, with 13th COSCOM (now they're known as 13th ESC).

That being said... I wish I could wear the MNC-I (although they've changed the title to "USF-I") patch, which is the subdued version of this:

Got a little update for everyone.

As of 27APR10, I am Staff Sergeant Hartl.

Got pinned this morning in our awards ceremony.
Great feeling moving up, too bad it's at the end of the deployment, and I have to go to the other side of the state for the position.

Thanks, I finish up my BNCOC in June, finish our re-integration drills in Sept, and then I get to start driving across the state for drill. I'm the motor Sergeant of a detachment. SO, about 40 people, and I'm the 3rd highest ranking there...

CLS = Combat Life Saver. One step below a medic, they do the "quick fix up" in the field until you can get to a medic.

Any others you don't know, feel free to ask, or google them, they quite often come up.

Do they still require a CLS in every squad?

"require" used loosely, but we had at least that in our BN. In fact, one company had a 95% qualified rating.

We had a lot of free time for training.

We had a similar percentage in our unit. They made just about everyone go through CLS training who wasn't already CLS qualified when we went through PMT (pre-mobilization training, for the uninitiated). Really though... there are just some people who aren't cut out for sticking others with needles. :panic:

They took away all our sticking equipment here in theater, anyway (needles/catheters, fluids, etc.). So sticking during a recert is moot. Kinda defeats the purpose of a CLS, IMO.. but.. whatever.
