Anybody that thinks that picture size or quality "doesn't matter" is completely nuts!!! My new TV fucking rocks!!! You are all delusional and have a serious case of "sour grapes"!!! I can totally tell the difference between this TV and my last TV. The clarity is superb and there is zero "motion blur"! Plus the "red crawlies" are gone. Don't get me started on how good PS3 games and Blu-Ray movies look...:rockwoot:
You know what? I bet you cheap fuckers don't even have a Harmony remote either. That's another must have item! Type in the info on all of your electronics, plug the remote into your computer and tada all set! Man oh man, you tight wads don't know what you are missing!!!
not everyone needs the best TV or a remote that does everything. If you occassionally watch a movie or sports event and just barely watch TV just a sitcom/series here or there. Buying a $2000-3000 TV is not the wisest investment if you do other things more frequently. Plus, blowing all your money on toys is for fools. Like welfare recipients who go out and buy smokes/alcohol instead of food for their kids.
It doesn't matter to a nonaverage TV user. If they don't watch it all that much, it's not something they really give a second thought to when they occasionally do watch it.
What is this motion blur or red crawlies thing you speak of? I'm looking at my TV trying to figure it out

But I just don't.
Hell, we still have the tube tv my husband bought for himself as a teenager as our only tv. It's 11 years old and still cranking. It shows the 2 hours worth of sitcoms that we watch a week just fine. :dthumb:

The bigger you go, the more the picture quality makes a difference. I hate watching regular tv on my 46". I will watch a rerun on HD before I will watch something new on regular tv in most cases.

My gf and I would be rocking my 19" projection thingy from 6 or so years ago if not for space issues. And even if we get an apartment with a decent size living room it'll have a $1000 pool table in it before it has a $3000 tv plus crazy sound system (which I doubt apartment neighbors would enjoy)
But hey, if video games are your thing then more power to you. Me, I'm a cheapy on electronics. I have a $14 4gb MP3 player from Brandsmart that I use for running or even just listening to music. It doesn't have a screen so it's like an Ipod shuffle minus a hundred dollars or so. My downfall is I'm not a cheapy with my main hobbies such as mountain biking, triathlons, etc. Though with those hobbies, cheaping out can cause injuries from bad equipment.

You do know it takes about a 120" TV for the normal human eye to be able to see a real difference between 1080i and 1080p. The differences you think you are seeing between the two comes from other factors like contrast and speed. 720p on a great TV is about all you really need in picture size, having better other factors is more important.

Dude, go to your screen settings on your computer and change them between 720 and 1080 and tell me there isn't a difference. As far as 1080i and 1080p goes, I never mentioned any difference between them and agree that most programming is CURRENTLY not supporting 1080p BUT supposedly, a TV is a purchase that you make only every few years. Why not buy with the future in mind?:idk:

Okay, I just got off the phone with a manager from Radio Shack and he says that you can get a Harmony 520 for $50 but you'll have to go into a store and have it shipped in. The thing is that it's a 2006 model but all you have to do is go to Logictech's website and download the new software and you'll have a 510 that controls 12 devices. If you want me too, I'll get it for you, program it and send it to you and you can pay me back, Rae-Rae.
Mine works great and any function that doesn't automatically come on the remote can easily be programmed. Like how I had to program a button for "Internet TV". Let me know, pumpkin.

One button press turns on your TV and sets the correct input, turns on your receiver and the correct input, and turns on your satellite/dvd player. Even replaces the remote for your thermostat, ceiling fan, lighting...
It's intuitive enough to use it doesn't take much (any, really) time to learn how to use it.

Yeah, every piece I have came with a "universal remote". Only problem is none of them are truly universal. And when people come by to house-sit or the in-laws drop by and want to do something simple like watch TV, I'd have to watch their eyes glaze over by the time I got to "use this remote to...".

A guy at work just had the training for it and he couldn't believe the difference when they showed him two tvs. One was done the other was just out of the box. He couldn't believe it. He said the thought it was bs but he said it would be something he would pay for now to have done (if he wasn't going to be able to do it himself after the training). He couldn't believe it. I have yet to see one that has been done.

Search the Net for the optimum settings for your particular model - chances are, someone out there has already calibrated and recorded the settings somewhere. I found the optimum settings for my Panasonic on a HDTF site and I'm very happy with the picture.

This is a good start - you can use suggested posted settings for a given set (such as these) and fine tune the settings to your liking. In the end, it's up to the viewer to decide what looks best.

Some of them are, some of them are worth it. You just got to weigh the price vs the reward. They had good ones and bad ones at Best Buy. Just depends on what level of confidence you have in the equipment you are buying, that should also tell you if you even should buy the equipment at all. Believe it or not I have a warranty on my BMW and it has paid off for me already.
Calibration they are refering to is just adjust the settings (contrast/brightness/colors) to get the best color/picture. I am surprised you don't know this since you are so knowledgable on electrical devices.

You are stupid! You need a calibration disc to do it right! Some blue ray movies come with the programming on them or I believe that you can burn one off the net. Trying to use someone else's calibration settings is as smart as trying to use a different guy's suspension settings. They may get you close but they aren't going to be perfect for you and your viewing situation. There are multiple factors involved, including but not limited to, room lighting, viewing angle, viewing distance, source material, etc. Oh but I'm sure that you knew that, right?

Depends on 2 things:
1) first does it have any moving parts or other things that commonly break?
2) are you really going to hold onto it more than 2 years or so? You seem like the kind of person who wants the latest stuff all the time, so.....

Not exactly. The plan needs to pay for the replacement. The replacement cost more they what is paid for the plan. They would price them on what they think they will have to pay out. Price it too low and the plan could cost the store money.
When I did my used car business the plans for some cars were pretty cheap. The plans on the Land Rovers were expensive.
It is another product for the store to sell. Profit is what runs a business.

Wow, I jumped into this late. I just got a used 42" plasma 720p from a friend for a couple of hundred bucks. Before I had an old 27" CRT and it was a huge difference moving to a plasma. Going over to my friends' houses that have 1080p with bigger screens make me drool. More than anything else we watch Playhouse Disney, and I don't care. I'm convinced even Mickey Mouse Clubhouse would look better in hi-def.
As for the Harmony remote, it's a must-have. since I got mine my system is easy to operate, even for Ulu. When friends come over nobody fucks up my stuff trying to figure out how to work it, and that makes a big deal for me.

Tom
You want to sell as many items as you can. The more the store sells the more a store makes.
Using my used car business as an example. I would make more if I sold a warranty. That wasn't the only reason I wanted to sell it. If I sold it there was a better chance of having a happy costumer in the end. They are used cars so things can break down. I would fix anything that was broke but if something does happen they are going to bitch at me and blame me for selling junk.
If they get the waranty they might not have to pay for the repair which is going to make them happy and there is a better chance they will buy from me again.
So it does make a store more money but it can help you keep a customer.
I sold a product to a young woman the other day. Her and her father said they would never buy that product without a service plan. This was their third time buying this product (I don't know how long they had each product) and they used the plan on first two.
And if your selling more then one product in a sale you have more room to make a deal.

I don't know anymore but I had a friend who worked at Circuit City 7 or 8 years ago. They payed him about 5 times as much commission for selling a warranty on a $400 TV than they payed him in commission on the TV itself. If you believe they knew what they were doing and paid their salespeople more for more profit they were making a bunch on warranties. Of course if they knew what they were doing they would still be in business.

Not really true. The price a plan on how much they will have to pay out. They need to make money on it.
The warranties I sold were not covered by me, I used a company who's business it was to sell warranties. They price the plans based on how many plans they will sell and how much they will pay out in repairs. The point of business is to make profit.

I will say this, I guarantee that after two years this camera will not perform the way it did when it was new. Period. Hell, the clerk at the store SUGGESTED that I bring it back for a new one AND told me exactly what to say to customer no service when I do. That's a no brainer to be honest.

If my camera is supposed to take 10 pictures in 5 seconds and it only takes 8, it's going back to the store. If that makes me an asshole then fine. Oh and I never claimed to have the sterling high moral standards that you all possess. I am all kinds of dirty, yo! Keep your big mouths shut or I'll steal your motherfucking gold teeth!
Oh and another thing, I am not afraid to get EVERY price match I'm entitled to. They've price matched my Voyager Pro headset three god damn times!!! I just don't give a fuck! I'm buck wild crazy like that, motherfucker!!! Please don't let something better/cheaper come out even on the 29th day after I bought that shit, because my ass will be dragging them shits on back, directly to customer service to get my money back and buy the new one. I know all the customer service clerks up at Walmart nigga!!! We is ever so tight and shit! They all run and hide at Ron Ayers when my big ass comes through the damn door carrying a bag!
DON'T HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE GAME, FOOLS!!! I didn't invent this shit, I'm just working the program that they set up. I'm 1 in a 100, the other 99 of you all let them keep your money. Shit, I bet you don't even bring your shit in for the free cleanings, alignments, etc. SUCKERS!
Wow, that's a couple paragraphs of excuses and you still can't man up and say that you commit fraud.

That's cool, but then you gotta deal with having no bike for 2-3 days while they fuck around with it, acting like they're looking for the noise when in reality they know that it's indemic to the model and there's nothing they can do about it.
If my camera is supposed to take 10 pictures in 5 seconds and it only takes 8, it's going back to the store. !
So, they give you a new one, and you just hope it works better? Who's to say they don't ALL take 8 pics a second?
They've price matched my Voyager Pro headset three god damn times!!! !
This, for something that's only worth $75? So, let's say you see it for $5 less......It'd take you $5 just to drive back to the store to say something about it. Unless I'm missing something?
Shit, I bet you don't even bring your shit in for the free cleanings, alignments, etc. SUCKERS!
You talking about for electronics? I'd bring it in too, if that shit actually made a difference......but it doesn't IMO.

Yo dog you is whack!
I can go 3 days without my bike, shoot I went almost a whole week without riding this year. Sides, you let that shit go and you maybe bikeless fo months, son. FUCK THAT!!!
I said if the motherfucker is SUPPOSED to take 10 pics in 5 secs fool!!! Like when I bought the bitch, it took 10 pics in 5 secs.
You is missing something son, my ass lives less than 1/4 mile from Best Buy, 1 mile from Walmart and maybe 2 1/2 miles from the mall. Shit, plus I be driving everyday, 60-100+ miles any old way, so why not stop and get my cheddar, bitch? Besides, this shit retailed for $130 and I've gotten it down to $80. Dat's fiddy dizzles my nizzle!!!
Oh and it doesn't hurt to have electronics cleaned out. They accumulate dust which builds up heat and can cause failures. Oh wait...
Dat shit gets dirty inside and those clowns clean that shit for free!!

Cameras are about the only thing electrical that I would consider taking in for cleaning, but that's mostly for the glass, but I don't take that shit to Best Buy for cleaning.

You realize who is actually cleaning your stuff at these places? I wouldn't want those kids touching my shit. Sorry, I know a lot more about my components than some ITT Tech dropout that works for the "geek squad."

What? I'm a total dirt bag. I totally admit it! I take shit back all the time if it doesn't work the way I want or if there's something better out there. I don't purposely break shit and take it back if that's what you mean...way too much risk, what if they won't take it back? I honestly work within the system as it was set up but I do work it right to the limit! I have no problem admitting that shit! Whatever.

Dude, you are just trying to cover your ass now, I don't buy excuses. You admitted that your Sony camera miraculously is going to stop working. I don't really care if you do it, just giving you shit because it's funny. I've done it and have no problem admitting it.

Unless you finally meet that one manager that won't do it and calls your ass out for something and then you become one of the people on bestbuysux.org

Seriously, I'm not going to do anything to it. I'm going to take it back because it doesn't perform like new!

Hell, they probably don't even give it to the Geek Squad, they probably farm it out to some other company making $6/hr. They put it on a truck to somewhere, so it gets a bunch of vibrations and road shock.

Either that or they stick a canned air nozzle in any vents or seams they can find on the equipment and blast away.

People that matter told me that I didn't use smileys enough when we were at the rally. Now that you mention it, perhaps I should cut down on them. It's one extra keystroke I can avoid making... Thanks for the advice!

Um bike has been in several times. My '97 Yamaha YZF1000R had two engine rebuilds and three transmission repairs. I buy the extended warranty on every bike.
If we were to ever meet, remind me to never let you operate any of my vehicles.

The bigger you go, the more the picture quality makes a difference. I hate watching regular tv on my 46". I will watch a rerun on HD before I will watch something new on regular tv in most cases.
James
Uhg! anything inder 720i is just not even worth watching the "artifacts" and gain is so bad you cant hardly watch:td:
1080i+ FTW!
Oh and HDMI really does make a difference from normal Composite:rockwoot:
