Anyone know anything about these? They are selling at Best Buy for $280. I was thinking about buying one for each of my kids (12 and 9). Internet, email, flash games, and maybe a few words docs for school is all they will be used for. I heard eMachines break often. I'm also not sure about the processor, but the 2G of ram seem ok.

Buddy of mine had a desktop by emachine - he had nothing but troubles, the thing always locked up, hardware went bad. After fighting with them over warranty he finally gave up and bought a new machine.

eMachines = garbage.

Spend your money on other things. Seriously, they are terrible.

I worked for best buy, emachines was the lowest piece of shit they could slap together and still call it a computer. BEWARE!

eMachine = the suck. There is a reason they are cheap, you get what you pay for.

eMachines are awesome man, especially the laptops. Probably the most advanced and reliable piece of computer equipment you can purchase. NASA and most Air Traffic Controllers use them on a daily basis without problem.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. If it was up to me I'd skip buying them a laptop but the wife is insisting on buying them one but of course we don't want to spend $600-$800 for each of them.

Thanks for the input, I'll pass on this deal. I keep recommending we just replace their old desktop but she wants them to have their own and not have to share. :td: I'm putting my foot down.

I'd rather have the Atom 1.6Ghz (that has hyperthreading) than a celeron 900 cpu.

For what it's worth my friend had an emachine comp a while back and said it just caused him a lot of trouble. The specifics are long gone.

Asus and someone else are rated the top two. I'll try to find the link.

Yea, I was going to suggest a netbook for each of them. They can be had for about $2-300 all over the place.

This $269 Samsung comes with Windows 7 and can be expanded to 2G of memory but you won't need it...

Or here's the ASUS for $249

I wish these came out when I was in high school. I would have used it every day. There was one kid that used a Palm and a fold out keyboard.

My typing looks a whole lot better than my writing. LOL

I have the Gateway LT2005u from Best buy ($230). I got the 500gb external harddrive from Targets black friday and will be sticking that bad boy in her eventually. I'll also be upgrading the ram to 2gb cause I like to watch a lot of movies on it and adding the Broadcom HD decoder. LOL Good times.

I also have the Acer Aspire One AOD250 that Target had for sale for $200 for their pre-thanksgiving sales. Deciding if I'm gonna keep it or not. Most of these netbooks are all the same.

FYI. If you decide on netbooks and money is fine. Get 6-cell batteries. Mine advertises for "up to" 7 hours 27 minutes. Hahaha. Ya right. Hack of two hours and you get real world usage.

I ended up going with a Compaq Presario CQ61. I only got 1 and they can share. Normally $549, on sale for $399.

Brand fail apparently according to the feedback in this thread. How do they even stay in business? Somebody has to be buying that shit.

cause there are a lot of stupid people... they buy the cheap shit... rather than spend a little more on something that will last.
