Just ordered one of these (as a Christmas present to myself) and thought I'd post the link for anyone interested. Nice price for a Mosin Nagant 91/30. I'm going to drop it in one of these stocks and add a scope for a cheap hunting rifle.

If the bore is good, she'll do OK. But the big question is whether or not she's American-made or Russian-made. Remington used to make a whole shitload of Moisins for the Czar army before the commies took over.

I'm planning on refinishing the wood stock and keep it, but I'll use the Monte Carlo almost exclusively.

If memory serves, almost all the 91/30's Century is offering right now are Tula's, that's what mine is.
Maybe a few Izhevsk's in there.
Personally, I wouldn't mind picking up one of the Finnish Nagants (maybe M39), but those are getting more rare and seem to command a higher price.

Speaking of the bore, I need to slug mine and see what the actual diameter is. It'll help me find a decent bullet for reloading.

I've thought about refinishing mine as well. That arsenal lacquer they come with sucks ass and the black paint on the buttplate rubs off on my shirt.
(or it did before I slapped a Limbsaver on that bad boy)
It may be a little like putting lipstick on a pig, but I like the full stock better than the aftermarket offerings.

I like my wood stock on my yugo sks. I hear the plastics make the rifle less controllable since it weighs less. Plus there's only one aftermarket stock I would some what consider for my sks.

Interesting point... a rubber buttpad would probably be a nice addition to my M44, because that thing kicks like a mofo.

My 91/30 is a Fin re-arsenal that I picked up a couple years ago, so I may be a bit biased about the original stock... not sure what the re-finish quality on the current batch is like.

Yeah, that's what the Limbsaver is on mine. That smokepole kicks like a mule, particularly with the heavy grain weight HP & SP ammo that I've had to shoot through it. Some of the old ball ammo is lighter but the range I frequent doesn't allow FMJ rifle ammo. :idk:

I don't know about the Fin re-arsenal (aka. 'captured') Russian Nagants, but the Finnish made Nagants (eg. those made byTikka) are better machined and finished.

I just got back from ordering the only thing I've ever heard my FIL say he actually WANTED. He's one of those people you have no idea what to buy because they HAVE everything...and he has more guns than anyone I know.

Ruger Single Six in .17 HMR

I'm not much into revolvers....ESPECIALLY SAO, but his mouth was watering when he was holding the 2009 gun annual at Thanksgiving and telling me about it

How could I NOT get it for him for Christmas?? :idk:

I'd prefer .22LR/.22 Mag, but still...

I have a .22LR version of this pistol (well...it's HIS but he sent it with me to shoot with the boy at the range) and it's growing on me.

I had never even HEARD of .17HMR until I went at lunch to order this thing....they showed me a bullet, and holy COW...it's like a mini-.223

1680-2850 velocity on that bullet (pistol-rifle) :whatwhat:

Check out 17 HM2 some time. I converted a Ruger 10/22 to that hot little wildcat a year ago.

The .17 HMR is a fun little plink gun or if you like to shoot squirrels or bunnies, it does the job nicely.

I thought about picking one of them up. I had a Ruger 10/22 and sold it a few years ago but wish I hadn't.

I have a little Gamo pellet rifle for popping squirrels in the back yard but the .17 would be sweet and cheap to play with too.

I can't really use the AR or SKS in the backyard.

Just picked it up from the local FFL agent. It's a Russian-made, 1943 Izhevsk. Haven't had much time to give it a good look over, but at quick glance the stock is actually in good shape and the receiver looks OK. Came with a bunch of crap I don't care about - sling, bayonet, pouch, oil container, etc. Probably won't have time to break it down and give it a closer inspection until after the holidays.

What is the typical FFL fee there? Here it ranges between 20-30 for most place and up to 100 at places like gander mountain.

I've seen $20 - $50 around here. We have a Gander Mtn. too but I've never checked with them...$100 ? Geez.

They do that to discourage FFL transfers so you can buy directly from them.

Yeah, $20-30 for FFL transfers here too.
I was tempted to apply for my C&R FFL just for picking up old rifles and for the discounts you can get from a lot of distributors, but never got around to it.
