There's no way I could burn that much vacay at once. It would eat 3/4 of all my vacay for the year. And I plan on riding to sturgis this year.
i might be able to hook with you for part of that trip. I was planning on riding out that way next year. not really staying in sturgis though just passing through for a day and riding out through ND,MT,WY, and NE on the way back. Not too many folks around here want to go with because it is just a riding loop not really looking to stay around anywhere for too long.

We are planning on riding out, doing a little bit of sturgis itself. Staying outside of the junk. No day long benders at the chip or anything stupid. Main goal, to ride not bar hop. We'll see, still looking into it more.

Mind if I tag along to Sturgis? I'll be on a Jap cruiser though.

If you want. I will post up details. I'm not organizing it though. My bud (another sturgis rookie) is setting it up with a few buds of his that have been there plenty of times.

Who's riding bitch?
ANother funny side note, I asked him what the other boys were riding. Wanted to make sure they were all newer HDs. We dont want bikes, say like choppers, that are going to give us headache. So here's hoping!

Really think so?
That is one of the reasons I got rid of the chopper.
Further, I earned the right to say what I want about them. I owned one for 3 yrs and wrench more on them more than any other non-mechanic I know.

so we killed drewpy's thread enough with the Sturgis talk. LOL
So rider where are you at in MI?
Gas does Uma ride her own or on the back of your's?
How many miles a day do you guys normally do?
Not sure if my better half would go or not. she is thinking about getting another bike. either a sporty or a BMW650 gs. she normally doesn't ride long trips though so we'll see. usually we trailer her's out and she rides the local stuff with me. This time though I wasn't planning on staying in one place long enough to make it worthwhile to trailer out.
any thoughts on what roads you would take?

I'm in GR, ~3-3.5 hours from Chicago. The most I've ridden in 1 day is 400 miles on a sportbike. As far as what roads, I'm just along for the ride but I-90 would be a direct route.

I'll throw it out there... Uma rides a sporty, not sure if she'd ride it there or not?
I don't have the guts to ride a couple sportbikes into sturgis yet...
Plus it goes on the week I'm supposed to get back. Don't know if I could get the bike ready and go that quick...

Rider - yeah 90 runs fairly close to me so that would be the route of choice for me.
Cutty - yeah that's why I asked about her riding her own. figured if she was the better half might feel more inclined to try it. (assuming she gets a bike)There's no way she'd do it on the back of mine. she's good for about 50 miles on the back then she wants off. different riding styles you know. LOL
Probably wouldn't be a problem now days riding sportbikes there. It seems to have become more of a "professional" type gathering now days. it still ahs it's rowdyness I'm sure but not like years ago.

yeah, but if i did, i'd want to roll in with some cruisers... preferably some that know me and have been there before.

Sturgis thoughts? Here's mine. Go there before or after the rally. Then you can get a camp site. And ride on twisty roads over 30 MPH. And get into a bar or restaurant. And see the sights (Mt. Rushmore, Motorcycle Museum, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, etc.). And I have many more friends who have never been on a motorcycle go to the Sturgis rally, than my riding friends.

Uma will be riding on the back of my bike. If for some reason she doesn't the back seat may be open on my bike. I want somebody on the back. With the headsets on teh intercomm it will give me somebody to talk to.
Wild... I don't see why you couldn't meet up with us. I'm not sure how we are giong out there but come on wisconsin... how far are you from Chicago? Or maybe meet up in south dokota?
Rider can easily meet my crew either at my place or in like coldwater on our way towards the indiana border.
I don't have the details yet, and really I'm not organizing it either. I know that we are talking about being out there for the last weekend of the rally. Staying outside of town for maybe 1 night or 2. Then other places in neighboring states. We will probably hit like 10 states thru the trip.
I'm wiling to bet we'll do 10-12hrs per day. I figure on it being a 5,000 mile trip for me. Change my oil before we leave and again when I get back.
I'm good for about 600 miles a day then I need a few hours to recoup. I can do more but then it just becomes not fun. Of coarse this is without a passenger. What I mean, is maybe with a passenger I can go longer. Understand I really don't feel a person back there. Its awesome.
And cutty... you should come as well!!

alright!!! it's way too early in the morning to be screwing with people like that. LOL picked the thread and see messages from the other. :lol
gas - yeah chi is a 1 1/2 hr from me and really if you're going through on 90 it's not far from my house at all.
600 a day sounds reasonable although i haven't done it on this bike. I have many times on my triumph sprint, cbr, and a zx6r so this shouldn't be bad.
no worries - those are valid points and i had considered it that way, but i do kind of want to see the rally as well. i have done a couple other large rallies and yeah it tries your patience at times but it also brings a different sense of comraderie as well.
ebbs - you have to edit that, it leaves way too many jokes about your girl and your dead wood available. LOL

either way... you are more than welcome to join.
600 isnt bad. Can do that in ~9hrs. But if all you are doing is riding... push it out to 12hrs. Longer break and shit...
