Some of you have followed along on facebook, but not everyone is on there. Just wanted to show some others as a couple people knew about it and asked me to post up pics.

Nothing major, but I couldn't stand the carpet in the kitchen anymore, so installed porcelain tile. Also hated not having a dishwasher and figured this was the best time to install one. Had to remove a 36 inch cabinet and have a 12 inch one made. Also installed a garbage disposal. Peeled wallpaper and painted the kitchen, too.

I did the vast majority of the work myself. Removed the carpet, pad, glue down tiles and vinyl, then installed the durock. Had my uncle come in and lay the tile. I'm sure I could have done it myself, but couldn't take that much time off work. He installs tile for a living and it took him 3 days, total, so I know it would have taken me a lot longer just from lack of experience.

I also pulled the sink, countertop and removed cabinets to put Durock under the cabinets so they'd be high enough for the dishwasher to fit. The countertop trim had an overhang that would prevent the dishwasher from opening, so I had to cut the trim down.

I installed the garbage disposal and ran a switch to it, then installed GFCI outlets on both sides of the sink. I'll replace the curtains at some point, but not really worried about them.

I decided to go with black appliances, but so far only have the dishwasher in black. The stove and refrigerator will get replaced next year when the countertops get replaced. But that will be after getting a raise and buying a motorcycle. Priorties are a must. ;)

Here is the transition between the carpet and tile.

Looks pretty good, did you just reuse the small cabinet on the right and move it to the left?

No, there was no small cabinet. There was a 36" cabinet to the left of the sink. I pulled it and put it down in the basement. I had a 12" cabinet custom built by the Amish. I took a door and drawer off the original cabinet to them, along with measurements. They built the 12" cabinet to match the original cabinets.

Thats awesome, it looks like it is the smaller cabinet on teh left, unless you said something I would never be able to tell it was built after

Carpet in the kitchen? I wouldn't be able to deal with that either. It all looks great.
