Ok, Apoc made me think of this in the harley thread about Harley posers, but how do you or would you define a "sportbike poser"

People who attend bike nights.
People who wear their leather jacket when they are not riding.
People who spend more time cleaning their bike than riding.
People who buy liter bikes as their first ride.
People who wear Icon gear.
People who watch AND enjoy Superbikes.

Weekly (well, when we had one )
People who wear Icon gear.
My first helmet was Icon - and I LOVE it.
People who watch AND enjoy Superbikes.
Well, okay, "enjoy" may be an overstatement... but I've watched it a time or three.

Really, anymore, I'm like  to each his own. We don't all enjoy the sport in the same ways or with the same passion. And how boring would the world be if we did?

To Icons credit, their gear has been getting safer from what I've seen.

 I don't wear it anymore, I just love the design. In terms of comfort & safety, I love my Arai. Newer Icon lids seem to have come a long way though.

Awwwwwww..... you're so sweet. :)
I've got a 4 year old Icon jacket, its verystrong and held up great. No complaints whatsoever.
But at the same time, when I bought my CBR1kRR, they gave me a free Icon helmet, and I absolutely hated it. Never had such an uncomfortable helmet on my head, ever! Shoei FTW!!

1) wears a jacket with a lot of fake sponsor patches
2) puts a lot of stickers on his bike even though he doesn't race and doesn't have sponsors
3) revs it at stoplights or around his neighborhood, just for attention
4) parks it in strategic locations, at strategic angles, to ensure that everyone sees it
5) has a chrome windscreen with a Hustler sticker or the name of the "crew" they belong to
6) sits on it for a long time, talking on his cell, so that people can see him and give him props for owning such a studly machine
People who wear Icon gear.
Damn, I'm a poser. It actually use to be my winter jacket. It was much much warmer than anything else I had and got it for a good price. It does look very poserish though.

I notice this too, Icon stuff is thick and heavy.
My problem with it is, even if I wanted a jacket with sponsor patches, why would I want a Parts Unlimited patch?

This one I have a problem with. As in the case of one guy I know with a jacket like this, they gave it to him free with the gsxr600 he bought because it was leftover stock, and he couldn't afford a different one. Doesnt make him a poser, just making do with what he's got. The kind of gear you wear doesnt make you a poser. Not wearing any does.

LOL, I didn't know better. I bought my first bike in october and it was a nice thick jacket. My bro who was the only biker I knew at the time was definitely a poser sportbiker, so he was my only influence. I got that dumb looking jacket thinking it would make me look cool and keep me warm.
I have the blue one.

True, but if we carry that train of thought to its ultimate extent, then there's no such thing as posers unless they admit to being one.

Agreed, because I do know another idiot with a repsol cbr and a repsol jacket who goes around saying 'REPSOL BABY'
I asked him if he knew what Repsol was, he just looked at me funny.
He still tries to tell people the Repsol editions are 'souped up' I make sure to point out that its not true, and he's just an idiot.

I think Im with Neebs on this. I honestly just dont pay any attention to most people anymore. I see them, I respond in whichever manner I need to (laugh, stare, point and fall over:lol:), then I file it away as unimportant to me.
If I had to say tho, Poser would be someone who thinks they are bad ass and when asked a standard biker question, they give you the blank stare, like that Repsol guy mentioned...however, a newbie does not qualify as they havent learned better yet.

The local tracks for us (NJMP and Pocono) are starting to attract the knuckleheads now. been a lot of crashes at recent events there and with different orgs, so sometimes its not even helpful having the track nearby. You would think they would learn a few things to be better riders but instead some take their street squiddliness and bring it to the track.

I know this is all your opinion, but I disagree. I can think of 6 different people right off the top of my head that I could introduce you to that meet each of those 6 criteria and I think even you would agree that not a single one of them would be considered a Poser.
IMO, the definition is simple: A poser is not defined by what they wear or what they ride, a poser is anyone who's in it for the IMAGE of the sport riding world more than for the LOVE of the sport riding world.

I criticize everything. Last time I criticized someone's clothing was prolly at least 2-3 weeks ago. Only reason you guys think I do it so much is because you think it's "ghey" for a man to talk about clothing. Even though I'm quite sure each of you makes an effort to look halfway decent when you go out......You just don't admit it. It's that classic "do it, just don't admit to doing it" aspect of the American male persona.
Hell, the vast majority of my clothes are just boring business-casual shit from conservative names like Dockers, Levis, Eddie Bauer, LL Bean, Jos. A. Bank, Tommy Bahama, Jones NY, etc. I'm too old for some of the stuff you pudknockers wear, like Hollister, Old Navy, A&F, or ripped jeans with all the color scrubbed off the thighs.
