My BF '08 CBR-1000 first oil change is scheduled at 600 miles, how exact do we need to be on that? Will it be a big deal if it's done at 700-750 miles?

No. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
But, it's a half hour job at most. Peace of mind is great security.
I do my first oil change at around 20 miles. There's all kinds of gunk that gets shed when the bike is first run, it's best to not have that spinning around in the motor.

How does he like the CBR so far?
Is he keeping an eye on oil consumption?

Did my first on the Buell at about 150. There were a lot of metal shavings on the plug magnet.
Did the second one at about 800. Few shavings, not much though.
By the 3rd change, plug came out clean.
Then again, I didn't exactly follow the "book" break in suggestions either.

I'm going to change the GF's at about 600. I did the first 100 miles HARD and varied the rpm, so she should be good! Besides, with the coated rings and cylinders that Suzuki uses, you almost never get anything on the drain plug anymore.

:dthumb: & fixted fer accuracy. :)
I also heartily agree on changing the oil after the first few hard/heat-cycled break-in miles. There's no problem in waiting 'til 750 vs. 600 though.

There isn't all that much and what exists is caught in the filter.
Change it at 700. Is doesn't matter.
I think sportbike riders (young and dumb and full of cum) change the oil waaaay too much on bikes. Every 3k miles with full syn. is enough.
Think of the enviroment...lol

My bike's cylinder walls are ceramique coated or something.
Too bad they aren't sandpaper coated. That would make things more interesting.

same here. i changed the first oil out somewhere between 100 and 200 miles - the oil was shimmering silver with countless metal specks. after that one, the rest were clear.
most break-in directions don't say to let it hit high rpms; they say not to run it for extended periods of time there, which i follow. i occasionally hit the throttle to higher revs; i just don't leave it there. i'd bet most ppl follow those instructions without even realizing it...

Actually if you're using full synth 5k changes are just fine.

My first oil change I had to run it till around 850 on the GSXR...checked with the dealer and they said it was all good, the couple extra hundred wont make that big a difference. Still riding the snot outta the GSXR with no problems. Several hundred might be a concern, but only a few hundred I wouldnt stress about.
I think my engine finally breaks in at 24000 miles. I am on a 6000 mile interval.

In theory I do every 5k miles on synthetic oil...but since I dont put on nearly 5k miles in a year I just change it once a year.

Buell is a 6K too. I found at the beginning that I was running far higher RPM's than recomended far more often than advisable... hence the early change. Now it's every 6K, with the HD synth cause I got a good deal on it.
Thinking about becoming an Amsoil dealer when i get back... Anyone else here do that?

Do you wipe his ass? He's a man. Tell him to get his pansy ass outside and get the job done.
You think Abraham Lincoln had someone else grow his beard for him? Hell no. He grew that shit himself.

You're not riding anywhere near hard enough if your oil isn't black and cruddy after 5k miles.

And grew it damn well, too.

It takes me almost a year to get to 5k on the CBR.....the EX500 I do it every 3000 since its a carbed bike and it is started cold alot.
But sure 5k is prolly no issue....

I was trying to find a way to call bullshit, but I guess if you riding full throttle alot, you are running 12:1 or so which should make for darker oil (more carbon).
