Did my interview for the fire school today. It is -12 and windy. Climbed the ladder 85 ft without a problem. Did the maze as well and that was fine. Now I just have to wait for news on if I can get in or not.

That sounds shitty to me. Reverse the numbers (85F and -12' up) and that would improve things significantly. Good luck though.

Why would you want to do a job that might require that? Cheese and Rice that sounds absolutely horrible.

I didn't even know a human could survive in those temps. I know I wouldn't.

Are you just applying to the fire school? Or have you been accepted to the force?

My friend Marlene did the one in Waverly. She's been waiting six years to be hired on to the force.

Just applying to the school. How old is she? I know a guy that has been waiting 1.5 years so far, heard of a guy that has been waiting 9 and he might have a job offer now. I know a guy that didn't wait too long to get in. They say if you leave Nova Scotia you have a better chance at getting a job quick but I'm not leaving.

Nova Scotia is a place I'm going to visit some day, in the summer.
I went to a school with a couple of guys from Halifax back in the 70's. I used to tease them about the month and a half riding season..

Congrads on passing the test. 85ft is a long way in both directions. 50 or so ft up a phone pole is about as high as I've been and I wasn't comfortable.

In town they are pretty much all paid career firefighters if not all and the work 24 on and 72 odd. :). Outside the city there are volunteers.

The big issue here is the very harsh winds we get off of the ocean that are funnelled up the harbour. It can make -10 feel like -25.

There was "sea smoke" on the harbour yesterday. And we usually don't see that until it's about -30..

good luck, and remember that all your gear feels better in the cold then it does in the heat (i did firefighter olympics for a drill a few years back in 101 degrees, not fun!)

The funny part it it thought it would be even colder at 85 ft but it didn't see any worse. I was busy making sure my feet were in the right place. On the ground I was freezing. Didn't have fire grea on. Just pants, fleece sweater, coverals, winter hat and had hat. I did have light gloves on as well. The odd part is climbing that high and going no where. There wasn't a building in front of it so it was a different feeling. I just hope I get in the school. Then it will get tough.

Very often. I hit that stretch of road about 3-4 times a week either going to fall river or old guysborough road.

The first ride I did on my bike, a guy in an suv stopped to give me shit for speeding as I was warming up in the parking lot of the pre-fab home place right by there.

We went downtown last week to raise money for the burn treatment society. It was a slow night but we did raise $811.21. Its a start. We wore our boots, bunker pants, recruit shirts and our helmets. Damn that was fun. I need to buy some bunker gear just for the club. LOL. We had woman coming up asking to get pictures with us.

It might be. I don't know if they realize what they will be getting into if they allow me to do what I want with it. I could spend a few shifts doing a truck like that. But if I do it I want to do pretty much the whole exterior.

Some drivers won't let you wash the front of the truck at all.
