Must be a slow newsday in these parts. All the paranoia over the winter wallop (even though its not winter yet) or the noreaster of 09 is prety entertaining.
The weather guys have no idea whats going ot happen, I am hearing reports of anywhere from a dusting to 18 inches in my area, if thats all it takes to report weather sign me up I can do that
Whats also great is how everyone flocks to the stores to buy all th emilk and bread like we will be snowed in for days. We live in a suburban community thats relatively flat and has a good sanitation system so the roads are plowed in a day or so.
What is a concern, to me anyway since I will be driving to and from work in this i sall the asshole christmas shoppers that will be out and how its bad that its such a busy shopping day and the storm will interfere in that.
Miffy will still be ou tin her minivan because she needs to get the latest psp or whatever for her fucking kids.

In a day?
How bout in an hour
My street is a dead end so it rarely gets plowed within 24 hrs but we are at the top of the hill so we can at least leave.

Elmont usualy wasnt too bad I think once the side streets took 2 or 3 days to get properly plowed but you could still get in and out of the area.
We will see how the guys are in seaford, I am on one of the peninsulas thats south of merrick rd so it may be a crapshoot. The sanitation guys here suck so I am not too optimistic on them with snow removal here.

We may be getting some snow next week. Two women at work are freaking out, because if they don't show up to work Wed. they won't get paid for the holidays. :bonk:
I find it all amusing, having grown up in MI. Unless the roads are closed, I'm on them. And you better get the hell out of the way.

But can you get back??
I'm on a dead end street too and its not plowed, and my house is on a hill so I have a pretty steep driveway...I can get down, I just can't get back up.

As someone who worked in news...I can tell you slow newsday or busy newsday...the second the wx man mentions snow the world comes to an end and the WINTER BLAST grx come out. It's a joke. But it's much funnier on the other side.

My after school job ( way back in '76 & '77 ) was changing tires at the local tire store.
When the weatherman mentioned that dreaded four letter word, everybody needed their snow tires on THAT NIGHT:willy:
I worked plenty of nights to 11 pm and had to homework then

took me almost 4 fucking hrs to get to work tonight. 2 god daamned accidents shut the hwys down, took me 2 plus hrs to get through that after that it got alittle better. it was aslow go obviously but the traffic thinne dout becasue its later. I make it to bk and there are people all over the streets and I sure as hell wasnt swerving and hitting a parked car for these morons.
At least things arent too busy here so hopefully it stays that way.

Damn that global warming!!
You guys should live out in the sticks like me. This kind of a blizzard brings more people out on the roads than Black Friday, some to have fun sliding their jeep, other wanting to watch said crazies, and still others out to sack the dollar store before they run out of milk and bread. And everyone here has access to a 4x4!

I love when it snows a lot here.
We have a lot of old people and shitty drivers who know they're shitty drivers. So, people stay home. If you're brave enough to go out, you have the city to yourself.
I enjoy going to the theater when its storming, usually have the place to myself. And, like was said, it is a ton of fun to drift the car through abandoned streets.

Whats worse here are the idiots in the suv. typical LI suburbanites who buy them to use when the weather is bad. They figure theycan drive the same way when conditions are good and theyre the morons that run off the road and have the roll overs.

We have those too. I'd imagine everyone does. For some reason a lot of ppl think SUV's make them invincible. There were so many crashes here Saturday. People had no business being on the roads.

I dont think its as bad in areas with harsher winters and more suburban/rural type ares. Seems people there are much better drivers as a whole than around here.
I did have a nice spin out comming home yesterday though. I managed to save it and not hit anything. People in other cars were prolly like look at that ass hole, I was laughing when I straightened out and wanted to do it again LOL

I was in front of this guy on an untreated road. He came up behind me throwing salt down and started sliding sideways....I drove directly in to someones front yard to avoid getting crushed by a billion ton dump truck.

Until then I didn't either. Looked like a younger guy driving...My guess is he was relatively new. At that point I still had 3 hours and 45 mins of driving to do....I turned around and went home. Wasn't worth it. Turns out they closed 322 and I-80 anyway. So I just woulda been stuck hours from home.

I saw one clip a huge oak tree with the wing plow once - the whole truck abruptly jerked sideways (the tree won )
That was about 10 years ago and the tree is still there with a gouge taken out of it :lmao:

We had a 70 car pileup recently, and the only car on its roof in the pics was an SUV with winter tires.

I tell ya. I hv drove many many trucks, more than a few suvs, and lots of cars. All with various states of good. I've had some suvs that did better than some 4x4 trucks. It really depends on the vechicle. I've had a 4x4 F350 1 ton with a huge v plow on it drive better in the snow than an 4x4 standard truck.
When the trucks left tortian bar front suspensions so tt they give a softer ride. They lost a great deal in the snow 4x4 world. My 2002 F150 4x4 was great, could plow snow with the headlights, if u catch my snow drift. 2004 newer version with coil over front susp. Garbage in the snow. Equinox AWD could eat snow, plow it with its bumper awesome. I would blow my mofos with that thing. Maybe the best snow vechicle I've ever drove.
But in each one. I know tt none of its greatness will help with turning and braking at speed. Further NO sudden movements or harsh brake. Slow down for corners and be easy on the throttle. These are the places most people lack when driving in snow in any vechicle. Couple tt with ignorant confidence from a suv or other. Equals roll overs and in general accidents.
