Wow, just watched an episode and I'm stunned. When cleaning out the garbage, the crew found two dead cats. Long dead. Just fur and skeleton dead. Flattened like pancakes underneath piles of trash dead. They estimated one had been dead for at least ten years. Inside the house. Where someone was currently living. Wow, just wow.

It's so sad. :(
I do a clean every 3-4 months where I throw stuff out en masse. Moving around a lot will do that for ya. ;)

No they should be smothered by trash until they are flattened like a pancake.

there's a lady around this area who has hoarded so much that she had to move into a shed next to her house because the house was too full... and now the shed and the yard are both full of stuff.

My mother cleaned out her friend's house after she passed away. Her friend's husband had approached my mother about helping to clean out "the stuff." She had NO IDEA that her best friend was a hoarder. The house was so full the refridgerator door couldn't open all the way and there were rotten items that couldn't be reached. There were bags of stuff bought that were just dropped inside a room with the receipt still in the bag from years before. They tried to return much of it... and couldn't because the receipts were expired.
I can't watch those shows. I'll surf by them... and then go off and clean my own house. *twitch*

I caught that show once and couldn't finish watching. the organizational OCD freakish streak in me makes me start to twitch just looking at someone house on TV that's like that.
I do not get it at all.......

Yea.. saw it before too. Really wish I hadn't.. This woman's fridge was so full of rotting shit I wanted to puke at just the site.. can't even imagine the smell. What really makes it gross is that she still uses the fridge and everything.. WTF. I remember a quote.. referring to a jar of something putrid... "When there are tunnels that's when you know there are bugs in there." And she kept half a carton of eggs that her friend gave to her as a birthday gift.. omg.. why did you have to make me remember this?!

I watched that one. The lady’s son was taken away and she never cleaned the house to get him back.

The last one I watched had a guy who lived in NYC and he hadn't used his shower in over 5 years because he had clothes and all sorts of other junk in it. In order to shower, he would go to a gym near his work and use the shower in the locker room.

That is my ex-MIL. One part of her house is not finished (over 10 years 'remodeling') and in that room there are bags of stuff she's bought sitting on the floor. I needed shower curtain rods a few years ago and she brought out a bag with 6 or 7 new packs in it. Everything she buys though is 'on sale' and super low quality. It's disturbing.

I've actually met 2 hoarders like that, both the sweetest little old ladies you will ever meet and QVC addicts. Unopened boxes and bags everywhere, with paths to navigate around. Sadly, they were both alone in the world, and had no one to care what they did or how they lived, nor did either acknowledge that there might be a problem.

I've been in houses like that working as an EMT, it is disgusting and more rat like than human like.
What bothers me about the show is putting a special label on these folks like "Hoarders." No, they're just crazy.

Not sure if it was this show or another, but I heard about someone who bought another house just so they would have a place to store all of their crap!

I think it was on this show. I have watched it a fair bit. Dunno why it's kinda like watching a train wreck! Ugh! I can't imagine the smell!

My sister is a hoarder in training. She used to just have a path through her house - she cna't throw anything away. She's a little better but still has strong hoarder tendencies....

I think my mom has a hoarding problem, but that show takes things to a whole other level. It's seriously fucking crazy. I've been to a house like that before... to buy a bag of dope. The entire hous was filled with trash, with small pathways to the various rooms. Strangely enough, it didn't smell... well, didn't smell like anything other than weed and crazy.

I dunno. I think they do a pretty good job identifying that those people have a problem. Granted, they handle them with kid gloves, but I think with how severe their problem is, anything otherwise would kill any sort of cooperative effort.

Have any of you seen the BBC version of clean house ("How clean is your house") with the two British ladies? That show is crazy. Some of the places they go are so unsanitary I can NOT believe people live there.
