View Full Version : So how many miles is your goal for 2010?

There may be some obstacles I face this year in terms of riding time so I'm gonna predict that I'll get 15,000 miles in 2010.

With commuting, touring and track miles I am planning on 20 at least. I did about 15 on th efutura this year. I may try to get an IBA patch on my trip to or from the rally.

Did you ever sort out the problem you were having with the futura?

I'm not going to aim for any number specifically; rather just to have fun putting on whatever those miles might end up being.

I'm planning on more in 2010 than I have in the last few. I'm hoping some of these miles come from me being out of state (rally).

yeah its the voltage regulator. I will get a new one this month and saw the probem with one of the connections so we iwll be good for next year.
Gonna hit mid 40's tomorrow so i hope to log a few miles on the buell.

I'm shooting for 20,000-30,000 but who knows what's going to happen. I did over 61,000 in a little over 2 years and really want to do 100,000 in 3 years. We'll see.

No, I have a car too (Honda Accord). I rarely drive it though, pretty much only when I have to, or don't feel like getting soaking wet on my way to work, lol. Before I got the bike I used to put about the same number of miles on the car each year... it's at 395,600 right now, but it's accumulated very little since late 2004... only do about 3-5k miles/year on the car. I (and my doggie) did just do a 1400 mile drive in the car though over Christmas, went from NC up to Illinois and back to visit my dad and sister

Absolutely. Will probably do mostly track with limited street.
I havn't really thought in miles, but i do have specific bike related goals I would like to hit. Last year my riding season was shortened by a few months because of my hand/masterbation injury, I was able to ride at the rally, but the bike pretty much went away for a while after that, I had too many moments where my hand hurt for me to do any serious riding until 1/2 way through the summer
1. Ride to and from the rally
2. Ride to and up Mt Washington
3. Saddle Sore 1k
4. at least 2 track days
5. Plus whatever other regular riding I do
The only thing that may put a damper on that is I have a feeling I will be moving to MD this summer, so depending on how selling the house goes, I may or may not be able to do anything.

I was thinking about getting an IBA patch on my ride to the rally, i may need to add about 100 or so miles from here so maybe we can figure something out so we can hook up along the way or something.

Yeah, put a few ounces of Seafoam in it, filled the tank, and ran it around the block to get it circulated. I put Sta-Bil in the Buell last year and it didn't respond the way I would have liked when I got it out. So I stopped using it and haven't had issues since.

Eh, I don't have any major moto trips planned this year and the main rally is in my backyard, so I don't even travel to that this year like last year. I may take a few shorter distance trips, but I don't plan on putting on a bunch of miles on trips. Most of my vacation days this year are going to nonmoto trips. Going to NY for Thanksgiving and Mardi Gras in New Orleans, probably both by air.

touristy thing. My parents took the grandkids to disney world this year and my wife didn't want to be part of that, so she talked them into taking us to the Macy's parade in NY instead of going to Disney World. My plan is to eat my way through NY. So you are going to have to get me some must eat places. I have to hit the hot dog places on pure prinicipal. In 4 days I pretty much ate my way across Manhattan.

Avatard recommended:
It is NOT upscale. It's not Gray's Papaya either. Somewhere in the middle, but it should NOT be missed, if you are visiting the city. It simply IS the best hamburger on the planet.
http://www.jacksonholeburgers.com/
I used to eat at the 64th street location. Fantastic. I've recently had a very good experience at the 33rd st. location as well.
Method recommended:
Oh hell yes - Now we're getting into my specialty.
What are you in the mood for Shmike? Are you looking for international food? Something eclectic? Tapas?
I'll toss out a few suggestions with different themes:
Fun, interactive dining with awesome food:
Gyu Kaku - Japanese BBQ. It's down in the village area, and has top notch food and drinks with a cool decor.
Rosa Mexicana - Upscale Mexican food. Try their tableside guacamole. Trust me.
Dos Caminos - Same gig, but a little cheaper.
Romantic:
Euzkadi - Spanish Tapas. This is in the East Village. Awesome food, small intimate restaurant, and perfect for feeding your girl.
Casa La Femme - It's great spot with mediterranean food, belly dancers and individual booths that can be closed off
Great Steak:
Uncle Jaks - Hands down one of the best steak places in NYC. They'll swap out your beer glass for a fresh frozen one every couple of minutes.
Sushi:
Hit the uptown Sushi of Gari. It's around 72nd and 4th ave. Sit at the bar if you can and ask for the chefs sampler. Gari will feed you all kinds of really good weird shit till you're full.
Loungy:
Downstairs Marseille. It's a cool spot, very chill and with pretty good food. (44th and 8th)
Actually... Shmike, shoot me a PM with what you want and I'll hit you back. There's just too many to give out a good recommendation without knowing what you're in the mood for.
+ I can hook you up with the good nightlife spots as well, depending on what you're in the mood for.

Where I hit and my impressions:
Thanks to everyone who chimed in and gave us some tips. I'm back in sunny Florida about 12lbs heavier.
I got in on Thursday and made it a point to have lunch at Jackson Hole.
I had meetings all day Friday and had to skip the after meeting dinner at Del Frisco's because of the GF's incoming flight.
She arrived and we had dinner at Il Corallo Trattoria.
Saturday we had brunch at Sarabeth's (my GF grew up with the chef, we eat there every time we go).
Saturday eve went to Euzkadi, the followed by Wine Bar on the corner and then onto Zinc Bar.
Got to Venieros on Sunday before heading back to the airport.
I didn't get to Gray's Papaya this time but definitely will stop by there next trip.
Thanks again to all the recommendations, all were really good.
Method,
Euzkadi, followed by Zinc bar. :dthumb:

you comming to the rally this year or just going on your own? I may try to lengthen my route a bit and get an IBA patch just because.
I'm going to the tail end of the rally... last weekend.
Gap, April 16-18.

Not sure I'll go at this point, but I'd like to.
If I was off I'd go with ya.
Yeah, put a few ounces of Seafoam in it, filled the tank, and ran it around the block to get it circulated. I put Sta-Bil in the Buell last year and it didn't respond the way I would have liked when I got it out. So I stopped using it and haven't had issues since.
That is common with sta bil.
Not saying that was the problem...but I've used Seafoam several times with zero issue.
Cause seafoam rocks!

Nah were gonna get hammered and drive out to michigan and kidnap gasman
We do need a thread/plan for the rally though. I am up for checking out that new resort down in GA
I know where we can rent a wood chipper and a good lake that no one goes to, so you can bring him to tennessee once you got him. We can make a rally out of it.
