Goddamn, Pandora is awesome. Genius on iTunes is pretty badass as well, but it only uses the music I have. Pandora and Slacker Radio are how I find new music to put into iTunes, and both websites have iPhone apps (suck it Droid, I don't care if you have one too, FIRSTIES!!!!) so I get bitchin metal wherever I go. This plus my warm house makes me feel that technology is pretty tits right now.
I cancelled my Sirius subscription due to Pandora. I run it through my iphone through my speakers. No static like my Sirius receiver either.

Pandora is cool. I find it most usefull when we are driving to FL and hit middle GA where the radio stations are absolutely horrible and there is NOTHING worth listening to in the air waves. I just connect my iPhone to the AUX jack of the stereo and stream audio goodness; and it sounds pretty decent, too.

Sooo hooked on both Pandora & Slacker, and yes, the free apps make it even better. I listen online at work, then plug in the aux jack to the iphone to listen in the car. Absolutely love it. We're cancelling our Sirius/XM subscription as well.

The "guessing" on what you like is pretty good but it can go WAY out in left field sometimes.

I'd imagine it has to do with licensing/distribution agreements with the record labels? Just guessing here.

The servers can use the client's IP address to identify the general location of the user and block the user, etc. I'm not saying this is exactly what they do, just throwing out a likely possibility.

Pandora is pretty awesome for a few hours, but if you listen to one station for too long it gets kooky.
We were listening to the Bloodhound Gang station and after a few hours, it started playing Tom Petty and U2. :wtf:

I think it's already begun with bluetooth capable cars as 3G and eventually 4G starts making it's way to more areas on the country. Hell a lot of normal radio stations that went internet early and discontinued it are coming back to it. One of our local stations has really started to advertise it's cell phone "app" so you can listen to it anywhere.

well your investment is only good as long as the company is in business and the stations are only as good as who signs on with them. A lot of people are moving to internet, that's where all the good shit will be in a few years.

You should give it a try. The thing about Pandora is, it will tailor the 'station' you listen to if you tell it what you like and don't like. It can also play a mix from all of the stations you create.

I bought it specifically for talk, Stern talk. Radio second. Local radio blows with all the commercials. But, honestly, since the merger of the two companies I think the music programming has gone down hill. If Stern was on there I would a cancelled after the merger.

When I was real young I used to watch his show late at night. The only reason for that was because of the woman he would get on the show and then talk them into getting naked. Then censored it but I still watched.
Later on I learned to hate the guy. He drove me nuts.

Well there's your problem. I hated the terrestrial show too. It sucked. But it's a whole different ball game on Satellite. I love it...listen to the reply all F'n day. I'll hear the same shit 3 times in one day sometimes. It's great comedy. And there is NO better interviewer than Howard.

The problem with Pandora that I had before (havent tried it lately) is if you give a song a thumbs down it would not play any more songs from that band. I didn't like the song, not the band silly willy.
Also, I seem to be stuck on the same eight bands. It wont find any more bands in the same genre.

You can bring up Pandora on your computer, select the station and add variety. My metal station plays between 15 and 20 bands, some hard to find songs too.
