My 16 year old niece threw this up on facebook today.

She's 16. I guess I'm getting old.

Am I wrong for having more of an issue with her posting this on FB than for her actually going out and getting either drunk or high? I'm not naive enough to think that there is anyone who can truly stop her from doing shit, but damn at least try and hide it for fucks sake.

This is EXACTLY why I like my daughter on facebook - all her friends treat it like passing notes. But, it's PUBLIC[ish]. If her parents see it and do nothing, it's on them, not her.

BUT her mother doesn't give a shit, she's on FB too. Her mother doesn't disipline her either, thats the problem.

I'm just thinking back to my youth and all the shit I did. BUT I did my damndest to at least hide it, chewing gum to hide the smoke smell (green and otherwise), alcahol smell, hiding a can of deoderizer in the basement of my apt building to spray myself down before I walk in the door. At least I made an effort.

This makes me want to call the cops on them, which I would do if I knew where the hell fernandos birthday is.

In the mean time I have taken the position that it's not my kid, not my problem. Except that it will be my problem. My 9 year old looks up to her 16 year old cousin like she's a god and wants to copy her. So in the end it is my problem.

I think I might just email a screen grab to her grandmother, she's the only one who may actually give a shit.

I busted my niece the other day posting from her ipod touch during school. I KNOW her mom wouldn't be ok with that and when I asked her if her mom knew about it she said "I don't know" so I said "well she does now!!" I really don't think I was as stupid as "kids these days" 'cause really, if your parents/aunts/uncles are on FB and are your friends, censor your public shit!! Hello?! :lol:

She's a 16 year old girl and her parents, neither of which are too sharp, want to be the bad guy so they let her do anything. They ahve also been going through a divorce for the past 5 years, they are separated and can't afford the $300 to file the paprework for a quickie divorce. Hell, I offered to give them $300 for it last year and they didn't accept it even as a gift that i didnt expect to get back because they didnt want to owe me any more money than they already do.

well, with her body, its already downhill, cause odds are good that before 18, she's gonna be pregnant with someones kid. I have no doubt that kids have been drinking, doing drugs, getting laid all the time when they were her age for decades, easily, BUT, until recently,nobody wanted to make it obvious because they knew they'd get hammered by the family. parents now are too pussy to do anything(generally speaking, but there are a few good parents that lay dwn the law still) and kids know this, so they think theres nothing to fear other tan the cops showing up.

It's amazing what kids consider "private" these days. And sad that so many parents don't care. my 16 year old's friends post pictures of themselve drinking - and half naked - and otherwise NOT appropriate pictures and I have contacted parents and their reply? "their profile is private, it's ok"
I hang up at that point and don't bother to point out that I'm NOT on their friends list and I can see it. Lucky for them, I'm not the pervert they have to worry about.
I monitor what my kids are doing online. Until such a time they become of legal age. That's my job. I take it seriously. The lessons are first - I teach them about hte internet and appropriate internet behavior. And then I just hang out in the background to make sure my rules and guidelines are bieng followed.

I have busted my son receiving pictures from a girl at school. I called her mom instantly - and because the photos were google images and not actually pictures of her daughter, she didn't seem to care. It was still porn. And it was still sent via email to my son. And it's still NOT OK. My son was punished harshly.

That's how I look at it.

I don't forget how retarded I was as a teenager. I just wish the lessons came in the smaller doses they did when we were younger. Like, getting busted drinking in a field meant you had to make up with the guy that owned the property - not every guy getting a sex-offender conviction and three other felonies that followed you around for the rest of your life. But, it seems that the level of what scares kids straight has been raised... unfortunate.

My ex cousin posted up a picture of her and her skinny ass in underwear across a bed on her hands and knees. The family called her out on it. I think even some of her friends said something about it. The picture was removed after a few days.
