Does anyone ride without health insurance?

And for those that have it now, would you, if you lost your health insurance?

In MI if a motorcycle is involved in a collision with a motor vehicle (A mc is not considered a motor vehicle)then the insurance of the motor vehicle pays for all medical bills no matter who is at fault. Now, if no car is involved then you better have medical coverage which is in addition to the basic mc coverage. I wouldn't ride without it, that's for sure.

Thankfully, I have always had medical coverage.

Not having any wouldn't keep me from riding though.

I didn't have medical insurance while unemployed. I rode but very little. And didn't race or do track days.

There have been a few times when I was without for short periods of time. I still rode as it was my economical transportation, but not near as aggressive or as often.

Uh yeah about Canada..... GST, PST, HST, socialized healthcare, gas at $10/gallon... I fail to see any positives. Oh wait, Toroto Strippers. You got one. :lol

Since have a family, I would have to stop riding if I lost health insurance.
However, if I'm in a situation where I do not have health insurance then riding time is the least of my concerns.

Hmm must be Canadians that can't do math. I asked a Canadian one time why he was filling up on the US side. He said because gas was 4x more expensive in CA. :idk: I just go by what Canadians say.

I just lost my health insurance this month. Granted I don't do anything crazy on the bike anyway and really haven't been riding much since I have been neck deep in school work, it does kind of worry me to ride without coverage. All it takes is one accident to send me to the hospital for pins and rods and I will be in medical debt for the rest of my life.

Of course now that I have a lighter courseload and have the time to ride, I don't have medical coverage.

My lowside/shattered Collarbone has run up almost 1500 out of pocket with my Blue Cross Ins. Without it it would be closer to 8000...

I thought most schools offer HI to full time students. Perhaps she is part time?

I think it offers crap insurance. I have to look and compare some plans. I think its a lot cheaper here to get coverage then it is in NYC. At this point, all I really need is something to cover emergency room visits as regular doc visits I can pay out of pocket for the occasional ailment.

I have heard that if and when I do start the nursing program they do require medical coverage though, so if I decide to go without, it would only be for a few months. Which of course is when its the best time to ride here.

When I wen tto school PT I had ins with my UPS benefits, but when that ran out while in PA school they had health ins w ecould get through them so I went with that.

I was without ins for a while since I didnt start working for a few months after graduation.

I have insurance...Havent ever Not had it while Riding...But I have discussed this with a few of my riding buddies who dont have health insurance...Its like your MC liscense...I rode without mine for about a year...Got fucked over on my own stupidity and got caught...and now I ride legally no matter what.

But as far as if I didnt have it...Yeah I'd probably still ride.

I rode for about a year without it, but it never occured to me at the time that it would matter.

Let's just say from my experience....broken femurs are expensive to fix and as of right now, HI has paid for all of it except my deductible.

Here in NH If the bike is insured for the rd ( and that is optional just like having insurance on a car is optional here) it covers injurys that result from a crash regardless of fault.

i have before, and would ride again without ins if i lost my coverage for some reason.

we also did a lot of dirt riding without ins. not the smartest thing to do but you take what life gives you. coverage at that time wasn't an option.

Yes and yes.

Ive been riding for 9 years, and about 7 of them were without insurance. I finally have a good job with actual benefits so I have insurance now but from the time I was off my parents insurance until recently I didnt have any.

It never occurred to me really, the short time I was without I did alot of riding, but Im usually covered, and I think my MC insurance covers me as well. It wouldnt stop me, but I might be a bit more careful than typical for my granny riding self.

So there is no lapse in coverage. That is SUPER important to some people and for good reason.

Those incredible premiums is what your (former) employer was paying.

I've always had health insurance since I started riding 20 + years ago so I've never really thought about it.

I've been with the same employer all of that time. It's about the only thing that has stayed constant in my life...most everything else has changed...wives...pets...cars...bikes...houses... etc.

Would I ride without health insurance ? Humm...I'm really not sure about that.

yeah, but i don't wanna mess w/ all that.

gov't pays like 65% of cobra right now.

cobra+gov't for me and kids = $340/mos + red tape
Z's ins for whole family = $330

though Z prefers my ins. co (united) to her's BlueCrossBS, i think from now on i;m gonna work contract so we're just gonna get on her plan.

no not board design, big power stuff mostly plant design, 3D stuff

usually a decent amount of work right now, but w/ the anti-oil gov't environment, all the oil co's have a hold on any projects in the US. quite a bit of work overseas.

buddy of mine told me about an phone interview he had w/ a co. in Alberta $50-70/HR for the work i/we do.............hmmm.........are taxes really like 50%?

Not really.. after I moved back I realized I took home the same percent of my pay here as I did working in the states, after all benefits were taken off both cheques. Plus we don't pay PST or HST here, so only 5% GST.

Someone else already said - if I lost my Health Ins I'd have a lot bigger worries than riding. In fact, I'd probably be considering selling bikes first because as much as I love them, if it's a house payment or foreclosure the bikes are history.

I take home 65.8% of my pay. Since we are in Onterrible, we pay 13% on any purchase made, so we are effectively taxed 52.8%, which is very close to half.
