Just an FYI I have a good friend ready to sell his 92fs .45 in nickel that has I believe less than 50 rounds through it.

M9A1 is the military spec version of the 92FS. It's really the same gun. I would't waste your money on the M9A1 unless you want a Picatinny rail. Then I'd go with the M9A1

I have one on my side right now, you can have it.

This much I knew. I wasn't sure if the M9 was somehow constructed differently or with higher quality internals or something. I often see them selling for $100 to $150 more than the 92FS.

They go through the standard mil spec testing... temp cycling, humidity cycling, salt spray, and so on. It's just guaranteed to hold up to the environmental elements more. Form, fit, and function they are identical.

the only 92s that are ''different'' are the vertec and the brigadier.

Because there are morons out there that would buy anything USGI-marked for a considerable price difference.

The standard 92FS is the same as the M9. The carbon steel models have the same "bruniton" finish as the M9.

The M9A1 has rails and I think that thus far only the USMC is using it while the US Army still sticks with the standard M9.

Naturally a carbon steel unit with "magic dust coating" will not be as corrosion resistant as a stainless steel unit. Coatings get worn off or chipped off eventually. Stainless steel is stainless steel. However, unless you decide to leave your gun without ever putting on a lubrication coat then you should stick with stainless steel.

I have handguns that are 100-years old with half of the bluing worn off yet don't rust. What's the secret? Wiping the damn things down once in a great while with a light coat of oil. It ain't rocket science.

92fs only comes in 9mm IIRC. the .40 and .45 versions are the 96.

M9A1's are coming to the Army. A buddy of mine in the 82nd was told they will be issued prior to his deployment later this year

Until some Special Ops type start mounting "lazzzer" on it and next thing you know everybody have to have one.

It's my issue weapon, and you can have it.
I am really not a fan of it. Too big and bulky for what it is. There are so many better handguns out there, the military really needs to look at something new.

i'll take it, and in return i will give you a sharp stick with a rock tied to it. i made it myself but i have to say it's top of the line as far as sharp stick mounted rocks go.

Fuck the Berretta, that thing is worthless. I'd rather have my SIG, it doesn't fall apart like the fantastic military issue weapon.

My Tauretta doesn't fall apart, it's accurate, and has yet to FTF/FTE redflip

Sig would be good, but probably not "cheap" enough for gov issue.

Thinking they would go glock or maybe S&W.

I haven't had one really fail, a few misfeeds and jams, nothing a slap and pull didn't cure. It's just a bulky clumsy pistol. It only fits comfortably to those with large hands. Really not the best choice for a issue weapon.

I've shot the 92FS and hated it. Too heavy, too clumsy, just not what I imagined. Loved the looks of it, but that was all.

Anyone have experience with the 92's little brother, the 84FS Cheetah?

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/images/D11/25/25976.jpg

Looks like a better piece for carry than the 92FS. I'd prefer it in stainless (not available) over nickel, and with black grips (easily swapped). 380 ACP ammo seems to be a bit pricier than standard 9mm, however...

The 84 Cheeta really isn't great for a carry gun. It's almost as thick as the 92, just a little shorter in length and height. I bought a used one cheap just to have it and it shoots good, but yeah ammo is more than a 9mm so I wouldn't recommend it. They do have a single stack mag version (can't remember the model) and it is nice and thin and would make a good carry gun if you want a small caliber but again there are smaller ones out there.

Also, think about ammo availability. Around here .380 is nearly impossible to find, and if you do its about $25 a box.

Correct. .22lr, single action only.
I've had the opportunity to hold them and look them over at stores, but I have a problem dropping $700-800 for a .22 pistol
Perhaps one day when I'm better off financially
