I thnk most cars would have experienced the same thing. Looked like the rear semi wasn't even on the brakes.

srsly.
Put a freakin' top of the line Volvo in there and you'd still have a crumpled mess of a sandwich.

It doesn't matter what your driving, you never want to be between two trucks like that.

Pretty damn impressive. Still I can only seeing owning one of those not for the gas mileage but if I lived in a city like Chicago, New York, or even London where parking can be a bitch, I'd want it for commuting around the city. I remember seeing that real world gas mileage on a smart car was 30mpg which is the same as a Honda Accord.
I bet the driver of that car (link said Focus) is counting his/her blessings.

Consumer Reports gives it a higher rating. The article I saw wasn't by them and it's been a couple of years since I saw it. A buddy of mine was wanting a commuter car for work (vs his low 11s 96 Camaro) and had a magazine all about MPGs. The Smart was right at 30 and same for a base model I4 accord (may have been civic) with the hybrid civic/accord at 34mpg.
I guess it depends on the the party that is testing. Kind of like a Factory Pro dyno vs a Dynojet.

Either way it kicks the shit out of my MPGs in my 1998 chevy 1500 that gets 14/17 (on a good day down a hill). Doesn't look like my truck will do much better in a crash either. I see them like crazy in Atlanta. Atlanta doesn't have a parking problem or tiny streets so in Atlanta at least I think the Smart car is nothing but a guilt fix. Slap on an Obama sticker on the back of a Smart car and that'll give you 3 guilt credits.
