I've already been to the doctor once and he sent me on my way with scripts for Motrin and cough syrup. I've been running a fever since wed night between 102-103. I take a Motrin 800 every 6-8 hours to help control it.

Started Wed with a horrible headache, and then wed night the fever started, along with chills, whole body hurts, etc. Thur night I developed a cough. Not a wet or wheezy cough, just like I have to clear my throat and can't no matter how hard I cough. No runny nose or sinus issues, no vomiting or diarrhea normally associated with the flu.

Doc did two chest xrays, both clear. Ears, throat, lungs all fine. But I'm still running this fever and I feel horrible. How long is too long to run a fever? Any ideas on what I might have? (besides a sketchy doctor)

Did you get a flu test?

I have never had vomitting or diarrehea with the flu, just felt like utter shit like I took a serious beating and fever.

The answer is, go to the doctor and as them these questions. In fact, just print this up and hand it to them.

If you still have a fever, something else is going on...

"Should I go to the doctor?" is one of those questions that has an automatic YES as an answer. So, go missy!! Off to the doctor and get better!

Sure something is going on, may be something as simple as a virus or could be something more.

BTW tripp I have seen a lot of people with vomiting and diarrhea with the flu. Not many this year but quite a bit 2 yrs ago.

You know, a fever isn't always a bad thing. It's your bodies natural way of fighting colds/viruses. It's frustrating for us as patients, but not a "bad" symptom to have.

If you are still worried, ask for some blood work. But it seems like a flu-like cold. Might even be piggy flu.

7-10 days these things can last.... or longer.

Clear lungs, no gastrointestinal issues... I'd imagine the doc felt your abdomen.. no stiff neck or anything?

No mention of a lumbar puncture?

Fever's can last a long time and not be detrimental to your health.

I think your doctor is doing the right thing. Without asking you a bunch of questions and doing another physical, I think your Dr. is on the right track.

Cuddle up with something snuggly, drink lots of fluids so you don't become dehydrated over time due to fever, and take your drugs.

Yes do this with pictures. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. With you being sick I thought I would save you some typing.

I hope your feeling better soon Cory.
