View Full Version : Clearing Fog and Rain on Shield During Rain Riding...

I got caught in a downpour two days ago riding home (23 miles) from work. The rain doesn't bother me at all, but how do you keep your shield from fogging up AND keep the rain off? I've tried RAINX, which kept the rain rolling off, but the thing fogged up like a beesch. Since it only rains like 2 weeks a year here, I usually just take the car if it rains in the AM.
What do you use?

Plexus on the outside of the visor, and open vents to keep it from fogging. In the mist when there's not enough water to roll off, I use one of those thumb squeegees from Aerostich.

Scorpion's don't fog.
I just crack my visor a teensy bit and keep a towel under my windscreen to grab and wipe if it gets really bad. Or just turn your head and it'll bead off to the side.

My shark doesn't fog, but if it's a light mist I just rub it with my glove, it hazes up for a second and then evaporates or beads together and falls off.

SOme people rub some soap on the inside of their shield........or you can get some anti-fog drops that scuba divers use
vents open or popped up one click and ride with your head cocked to the side. Visor up at stops

Troof, Arai = overpriced for what you get. I had an Arai mirrored visor that developed ghost-like distortions in it.

Easily fixed by purchasing a new shield for the Suomy.
I also have a Suomy and can't say I recall having any trouble with fog.

I got an email a few days ago about keeping car windows from fogging, but maybe it can be applied to visors too? Not sure if this would damage it or not, but it said to apply shaving cream to the inside of the windshield and wipe it off with paper towels. I was gonna look into it a bit further, but been busy.
I might as well just upload the entire pic. Maybe someone can benefit from it.

Weird, my Arai doesn't fog at all with the vents open (as long as I'm moving).

I have had my sunglasses fog up on me in the rain. Talk abt a bitch when on the freeway. I just typically pull them away from my face to clear them up.

I use a thumb squeegee to clear the visor .. Oddly enough neither of the budget helmets I use fog a lot (Both HJC's) when they do I crack the Visor. Just curious has anyone tried the Anti fog Visors ? Are they worth the extra bucks?

Scorpions are already anti-fog. Not sure what Suomy does.

Fucking rule at paint jobs & light weight, but I'm an oval fit unlike theirs which is more on the round side.

Actually most people of European descent have an oval head. Round is more of an Asian fit. So white people with round heads are the oddballs. :lol

If its raining...I never crack my visor...OR put it up when Im stopped...It makes it worse and my breathing makes my Scorpion Fog.
I use Nikwax...Worked AWESOME for my ride to the rally...And when your in motion...Turn head left and right and it rolls off the visor nicely

No...Suomy fits like a rectangular (oval) type head....Shoei is for the round head.

shaving cream def works for no fog on mirrors in the bathroom while taking a shower-worth a shot, id try it on my shield but i got a scorpion, it already doesnt fog.
if the rain doesnt bead up and run off the outside of the visor, just go faster lol
if you went the intl bike show, there was a product someone was selling, claimed it fixed scratched cd's, stopped fogging in helmets, and some other stuff. worked really good on the visor in the demonstration. dont remember the name but maybe this will help jog someone elses memory...

No way dude......Ever try an Extreme? Shit is almost just like an Arai Quantum in fit......All big on the sides, but tight in the forehead. That means round.
I have Scorpion Helmets which come standard with a fog-free coating, but I also keep Fog-Tech (http://www.amazon.com/FogTech-Anti-fog-30ml-Solution/dp/B001JR4CIO) in my tank bag for really foggy days. If you don't have a shield with ant-fog properties, I used to use Fog-City inserts (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/visors/fog-city-progrip.htm) with great success for rainy/wet mountain riding.

meh, id leave it up while riding it it if the rain didnt sting so much. I prettymuch hate having it closed

Sounds like you need to donate that helmet to the fire dept (per another thread) for training and get yourself a new one.
