Tis a joyous day here in Central Pennsylvania. This morning, at approximately 0900, I began a voyage to Northern Maryland. The mission: Pick up my new bike. A fabulous 2005 Buell XB12R Firebolt. A short hour and a half drive and I was NOT disappointed when I got there. The bike is in EXCELLENT shape. It's about as good as a used bike gets...especially for the price.

I bs'd with the former owner for several minutes...going over the bike and it's details, signed the check and he handed over the title. IT IS MINE!

Secured to the back of my cousin's Avalanche, we (Marko, my wife, and my new baby) and headed home. I rode it about 10 miles from my cousin's shop to my house.

BEST 10 MILES I EVER RODE. What a bike. I'm in love. Couldn't stop smiling the whole ride. Carved up an exit ramp but kept it largely tame. The sound of this machine is UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE! I love the Vtwin rumble. At idle this thing will shake your gut loose. At hiway speeds...your teeth begin to fall out...and I wouldn't want it any other way. It's loud, it's obnoxious, and it's black. Does it get any better? No. The answer is NO.

Now...I haven't gotten into any twisties yet...that'll happen on Tuesday when I have a day off...but I can say this with absolute certainty: If anyone ever tries to get me to ride anything other than a Vtwin again I will fight you.

I WILL FIGHT YOU.

Now the pay off...pics:

Also...this bike has brand new Corsa III's on it....less than 50 miles on them. A brand new steering damper. It's just a killer machine. Any gear, any RPM...open the throttle and it GOES! No waiting for the engine to get to 7,000RPM. Peace out Suzuki.

A couple of impressions after my short first ride:

1. Wind protection sucks. The Lightning has to be torture.

2. Downshift...what the hell is that? Not needed.

3. Drummer exhaust =

4. Front brake = CASH MONEY. Rear brake = Useless.

What kind of damper? Most of the ones I've seen hang off the side of the bike and look like fucking turds...

7k RPM... You can't even get to 7k!

1) When you're as... *ahem*... wide... as I am, wind protection sucks on just about everything. You get used to the lack thereof. I enjoy the breeze.

2) 3rd gear is your friend. It's the only fucking gear you'll ever need. Cruising speed is a solid 75mph and is just about perfect for any situtation. The only time mine gets out of 3rd is when I'm on the highway or Drewpy's crazy ass decides to hammer it in the straights.

3) I can't wait to get mine together... I'd love to compare!

4) Front brake is good. I got some new pads ready to go on... Hopefully they'll provide a little more feel. Rear brake is only good for standing the fucking bike up in a turn. Don't ever use it.

Yep, those are the sweet ones... They're the only ones that make one that's hidden IIRC... Most of the time I see these:

Darkhorse are the ones I listed.. I have the ones with the spools... Figured they'd come in handy if I ever got stands... plus they put more distance between the road and the swingarm in the event of a spill...

That service manual is the cat's meow. PIMP shit.

3. Smilies are mandatory when riding this bike.

4. Waaaaaaaaaay more comfortable than the Suzuki.

What kind of speed do you get out of 2nd??
I know 6th is a waste on the 1125... rarely even use 5th, 2 and 3 are the main ones.

Speed...I can do atleast 75 in 3rd...maybe more.

As far as the Corsa's...so far so good. I'm running them at pretty high pressure right now...about 33 up front and 37 rear. I haven't hit any 'good' twisties yet...so I can't be sure just yet. I'll test them this afternoon and adjust pressure and see if I like them.

The mirrors are ok. I like how they look...but I can't see much. The bought a set of OEM's...I'm gonna but them on and see which I like better.

Speed...I can do atleast 75 in 3rd...maybe more.

As far as the Corsa's...so far so good. I'm running them at pretty high pressure right now...about 33 up front and 37 rear. I haven't hit any 'good' twisties yet...so I can't be sure just yet. I'll test them this afternoon and adjust pressure and see if I like them.

and then i shifted into second....

does the 1125 have a slipper, cause if so i hate you

get too aggresive with a big twin and you will know the meaning of pucker factor and be very intimate with the term wheel hop

YES, it does have a slipper.

But, jamming it from 2nd to 1st at too high a speed will cause nuts to hit airbox, and a half second of rear wheel chatter...

banging the boys off the airbox is never a good thing did that in turn 6 at midoohio once, never again, drasticly reduced my entry speed from there on out....:ps:

get it under 50 mph before hitting 1st and it's all good.
Never had any issues in any other gears, not saying a slipper is NEEDED, but is sure is nice.

Did a nice 90 mile rip up through the mountains of Central PA. I was sorta sloppy and pretty slow. Still getting used to this sucker.

Anyone ever read that Buells run wide if you're on the brakes while it's leaned over? Yeah, thats true. Stay off the brakes when cornering.

:idk: never been on the brakes after I drop it into a corner. then again, engine braking is phenominal on this thing too.

Engine braking not so much on the XB...I was doing a little trailbraking. Bad idea.

Wow, I know how I missed this thread, I honestly thought your wife had popped out a little one. :idk:

Congrats on the new bike! It's sharp. I like Buell's, but I prefer the Lightning. I'm a streetfighter kinda guy.

BTW, I noticed we have another SMC rider on here, 6doublefive! Whats Up!

What the hell for? I'd much rather have the XB engine. What'd be cool is if he also put the XB engine in the blast.

Makes sense. I am pretty excited because there is a girl going to come look at my bike either tomorrow or saturday to learn to ride on. Her boyfriend rides a harley and she rides with him, but wants to learn how to ride on her own.
