this was a shift fork for my CR80 at one point. obviously this is one of those WHAT THE FUCK? things. I know what its supposed to look like, and it sure the hell isnt how it DOES look. the rest of the transmssion looks like hell too, so I'm just rebuilding my gearbox along with the whole motor pretty much, cause theres a lot of play in the crank bearings, the trans looks like the kid before me didnt know how to use a clutch at all, and well, yeah. rough as shit.

Spray some Windex on it.
It'll be good as new.

Well you are dealing with an old dirt bike. It will require much maintenance but at least it is all fairly easy. Go here for all your parts. http://www.partspitstop.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx

A little Club Soda will get that out.

1, 2, and 3 are your left right and center shift forks.

well I know exactly what it is, I simply want to know how it happened. my whole transmission is toast from the previous owner probably not knowing how to shift with the clutch, or how to shift at all.

My guess would be trying to push start it and jamming into gear without the clutch.

Hey, pick up a Wiseco bottom end kit, it comes with crank, rod, bearings, seals, gaskets, rod bearing and several other things for way better price than you can buy OEM stuff or individual.

Will do. my bottom end is a bit rough anyhow, so Im just refreshing as many bearings as I can get to. I see ZERO reason to halfass it and do things wrong when I'll have money soon. right?
the most fun toy is the one you're NOT always tearing apart to fix instead of ride.

Go ahead and get a Wiseco top end while your at it. 25 hours is the recommended replacement interval for the top end in 2 stroke dirt bikes.

at a minimum I'm also putting a new piston in, since the old one was destroyed by some kid trying to get the wrist pin out or something, it looks like holy hell.

Watch those cir clips. Cover the case with a rag before you remove or install the cir clips. If one goes down into the crank case you are fucked. You'll need to split the case apart again. If you leave it there it will destroy your cylinder jug and piston. Ask me how I know. :td:

Cause you're a klutz?
J/K I've done it too. Usually I can fish them out with a pencil magnet.

I know that one. my friend had a circlip come out on his dad's RD400, and DESTROY a cylinder wall. needless to say, I'll be paying close attention to that detail.
since its a 2 stroke, theres no real limit to the HELL that can cause if one of those came out.

Yeah I tried that and since I couldn't ever get the circlip out I assumed it just flew across the garage and didn't land in the crank case.. I was wrong.

yeah, they should. those little bastards are gifts from satan. I'm almost tempted to find out if snap rings would be an appropriate replacement for them.
