I think a lot of the track guys/racers use them since its easier getting the bike up on them by yourself.

I have no expierence with them personally so I cant say

Same here. I did drop it over on the side when I was in a hurry one day though. Didn't mess anything up, but pissed me off.

Not after some of my projects

I have learned grass does not like:

used motor oil
gasoline
coolant
water over 170 degrees (dad loved that one, was when I was home brewing and had to ditch some water very quickly)

Do not buy ANYTHING from powerstands racing. They are thieves who copy other companies' ideas and sell them.

See the recent article in roadracingworld about how they should be boycotted for stealing intellectual property from many companies in the industry, including gilles and yoshimura.

Buy a pit bull stand, made in the usa by a great company with great people. I have four of their stands and two of their trailer restraints. Honest folks who stand behind their product.

Dnyce and other twfixers (regulars) PM me and I will get you free shipping if you place your order directly with pit bull

get the pit bull, they are worth the money. Thats what I have now, also have a set of t-rex stands but they are far inferior to the pit bulls!

I am a little lady and can manage the pit bulls, had to have the hubby put the bike on the other stands or I would drop it. good thing its just a track bike!

Same withthe handy stands I use em at the track or to prop the bike up in the winter but if I am doing any sort of work on the bike I always use the pit bulls.

Ive used a front stand before, and the only down side to it is that it can get in the way if you are working under the bike, banged my knee on it changing sprockets a few times, its pretty painful too.

How does the forward handle affect access to side of the bike?
I used a wheeled stool, and I can see the handle getting in the way.

I have a rear stand, that has a retractable handle. It works awesome.

The handle can't be used with the sidestand in the way, so that tells you how far it sticks out from the side (maybe only 8 inches I guess).

the handle comes off so its not in the way. if they copy designs then they are just another knock off, i mean come on stand design cant be that hard, good materials, good welds, done deal. however, as much i wouldnt wana support powerstands based on what oreo said, i had already made the purchase before i even posted this topic.

but, i got lucky and got a new one for $5 :D ebay

seriously.
so, cant beat that.

Getting the bike on the stand takes practice.

Getting the bike off the stand should never take more than just the rider:

If you are tall enough you can straddle the bike and push yourself off the stand.

If you aren't tall enough, stand beside the bike and grab the bars. Push the bike forward leaving your back foot in front of the wheels on the stand. The stand will hit your foot and tip forward dropping the bike onto the ground.

Exactly, I either push the bike forward or reach back and kick the stand down while on the bike.

Do you mean a rear stand but with the forward facing handle? If you need clear access to the side of the bike, those can be turned 180 degrees so the arm extends behind the bike, leaving the side clear for access.

Have you done that?

I was curious about their ability to do so.

It seemed like either the tire would have to roll over the stand or the angle would make it nearly impossible to lift. :idk:

CHeck the pics I posted here, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm not at home though. http://www.twowheelfix.com/showthread.php?t=10470&highlight=one-armed

There are two reasons that I can see that it might not work:

1. Either the tire would have to roll over the stand

or

2. The angle would make it nearly impossible to lift.

I think I just had deja vu.

Homeslice
02-23-2010, 11:41 AM
Yes the tire has to "roll over the stand", but actually it clears the stand before it rolls over it. Unless you didn't raise the adjustable ends high enough to lift the bike high enough.

Notice in my pics how the tire is hovering right above the stand? Well, it WAS behind it, and then it got rolled forward over it.

fasternyou929
02-23-2010, 01:10 PM
Then why not just buy the regular rear facing stand?
Because I only use it in reverse when I'm doing chain/sprocket work. 95% of the time I use it in the correct orientation, which I prefer over a rear stand (both for ease of use and garage space required for storing the bike).
Have you done that?

I was curious about their ability to do so.

It seemed like either the tire would have to roll over the stand or the angle would make it nearly impossible to lift. :idk:

Yep, works great. The wheel (at least on my bike) is up high enough to clear the bar as you pick the bike up. Good point though, I guess that's all relative based on where your spools are in reference to your rear wheel.
