hokayz.

What routes do y'all typically take to get to The Gap?

I'm looking at slabbing it to Cleveland TN, then shooting over on 74. Anyone know that road? What's the quality/speedlimit/suggested speed? 2 or 4 lanes?

So far it looks to be ~220ish miles from my place to Robbinsville, NC. I'm thinking I should be able to make that in 3 1/2 hours depending on that TN HWY 74.... that's the only thing I don't know about.

I need to figure out how the hell I am going to make it to indy. I certainly don't want to take interstate all of the way there.

If you want I can get you from huntsville to robbinsville/deals gap without touching the interstate with some good roads on the way.

I'm looking for faster time to Deals Gap, so I figure what's gonna happen (New Market BTW, just outside of Huntsville) I'll head up thru Winchester TN, hit 24 to 75 to Cleveland and then over 74 and up 129.

for the quickest route, I would head up 72 to south pittsburgh, get on 24 ride that to 75 north, get off at exit 62 and take a right onto 322, from 322 you want to take a right onto 72, take a left onto 411 and then take a right onto 72, one more right onto 129 and follow that right to deals gap.

lmao. aight.

I'll probably follow those routes ya gave me, 'cept for going down to 72... that'd add about 20mins onto the ride. I'm ~10 mins if that from the TN border as it is.... so it's a quick hop up to the interstate to get into chat.

Hadn't planned on it. I'm only 4hours away so it's just a day trip. So I might come but I kind of want to avoid the Gap in the summer.

Trip, what's the fastest route to the gap from Boston?

But seriously... jeep and trailer with bike. Fastest way to Tapoco? The way google maps gave me or no?

I am going to shout this because this is important.

DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS IF YOU ARE COMING FROM NORTH OF KNOXVILLE VIA 40. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM 75, YOU ARE FINE.

Downtown knoxville is a cluster fuck right now because they are doing construction that has closed the interstate through there.

once you get to interstate 81 (not going to deal with the shit from boston to 81, you can get google maps to do it for you), take 81 to 40 just outside knoxville, when you start getting close to knoxville take 640 completely around downtown knoxville. Once you get back on 40/75 heading south, you want to get off at exit 376 which is I-140 and you want to go towards Maryville which is going to take you around the roundabout after you go under the underpass. Take 140 to exit 11 and make a right onto 129. Follow that all the way to Tapoco.

Or those with Verizon cell phones download the VZ navigator. The new addition that was released in the beginning part of may has automatic traffic updates and will re route you around road construction and trafiic jams..... It's $2.99 daily subscription (24hours) However it does cost "data" charges unless you are on the America's choice plans. Check with your local store.... or ask me and I will check too.

On the map I'd probably head south on 441(Or towards Pigeon Forge) then take that towards Townsend to Foothills Parkway. When I stayed in Pigeon Forge(Damn I hate that town) it didn't take me long to get to the Gap(Or from it in the rain) which was also a pleasent non-interstate ride.

I got a room for this Saturday(May 10) in Robbinsville, NC today. I think I'm at the San Ram or Ram Jam. Something like that. I think it said Isolated Thunderstorms but Fuck it. I spent 5days riding the gap in the rain I can do it again for 2 days if I have to.

I've never seen the Gap in sunshine. Well actually I did on April 6th but the road was still soaked from the weeks worth of rain. You can actually see a picture of my bike throwing drops of water up from the rear. Then discovered the crack on my sidewall and left before the road dried.

Every other time it was either Dark, Cloudy with rain coming and going.

Same for the Cherohala. Always in the clouds there.

I really wouldn't know what to do if it was sunny and dry.

But I have crap luck like that. I've never been to the drag strip without it eventually raining on us. And I use to go all the freaking time.

Saw the weather will probably be nice. I get the feeling I'm going to find out something tommorow that will prevent me from going this weekend. I can about guarantee it. Just no clue what it will be.

How about this. The week of the gap you pay me $500 and an all expense paid vacation to Miami(That way I can look at topless women). The rain will follow me from Atlanta to Florida. Seriously if a Hurricane comes through Florida and up Georgia towards the gap and I leave out for Florida it will stop and do a 3point turn back to Florida and to Key West.

When I get back to Atlanta Sunshine and highs of 80 with lows of 78.
