As much as i'd like to be able to blame the rink size, Canada did horrible in Turin because they didnt play together, not because the ice surface was bigger. We've won plenty of championships on Olympic ice before.

But, Canada has hockey gold locked up this year!

orly, I would watch the russians they seem prety loaded this year. The US doesnt have enough talent up front and I doubt Miller can win it by himself the way hasek did for the czech republic. Will take some time and see how the squads start to gel as the games go on.

Ill give Brodeur one thing, he is the best puckhandler in the league as far as goalies go. Roy was about the only other Goalie who came close. But he made a horrible mistake, and it threw him off his game big time.

You dont say no. You say 'You got it, coach'.. Kinda like the military. You can blame a player, and they often deserve it, but the coach should have pulled him after the second goal. It was obvious from the start he wasnt on his game.

When brodeur is on fire, he cant be beaten. But you can tell if he's having a good game or not within minutes of the game starting. And within 10 minutes, it was obvious it wasnt his night.

Yup, difference is, in the NHL, you get 80 games to prove yourself, not so in the olympics. Nobody really notices a a bad game so much in regular season. In the olympics, you get a couple of games, and you gotta be at your best.

Yeah the Canadians are the odds on favorite. They are stacked.

Too bad they are having a hard time playing together.

If Apoc thinks we looked good against USA, then the Russians are going to crush us. Canada had trouble beating the freaking Swiss fer chrissakes.

If Canada doesn't learn to play together, Russia will get gold.

Lasts nights game had a decent second period and a good third period, but if they want to beat real teams, they need to play excellent for 3 periods.

We controlled the puck most of the game, everywhere but in front of the net. I agree they played like crap against the swiss, and I expected them to have trouble getting used to playing together.

From hash mark to hash mark the game was ours, but those last 10 feet eluded us the whole game. They played with the US in their zone, everywhere but in front of the net.

There were some stupid plays stumbles throughout the game. But it was ours to lose, and its still on Brodeurs back.

Thats how we shoulda been doing it all along. Rush hard, and complete short passes in front of the net.

We gave up 2 goals to letting Luongo get screened, and still had a couple of fumbles, but the goaltending was brilliant. The main line for both teams got shut down hard, btu thats not a bad thing. And I loved seeing Malkin lose to the Canadians on our own ice!

Nice to see them play together a little better.

I agree. That's why the miracle on ice thing was awesome even to a Hockey Hater like me. It was amateurs against communist pros, probably cause it's USA too, but that doesn't count.

I think basketball is definitely a prime example of the suck of pros in the olympics.

How could you prepare for that course though? He was a competent competitor to qualify for the olympics, but that course was designed to be faster than anything on the planet. You can't prepare for the fastest ever made when the host country bans outsiders from it.

He had a wreck and the idiot designers of the course had metal structure objects in the crash zone without any sort of protection. If someone is going to come off the track, it's right where they had the structure.

When I go to the gap, even I know not to park my bike in the crash zone when I stop to talk to the photographers. It's just asking for your bike to get taken out by someone who loses it in the corner.

Poor safety implementation is what it is more about. If you are going to make the "fastest track in the world", you should also make all attempts to make it the safest in the world as well. Exposed metal structure supports in a crash zone is very very poor planning.

He also made it through all the world cup qualifying to get there. There were also several other crashes at Whistler by experienced racers.

Poor safety implementation is what it is more about. If you are going to make the "fastest track in the world", you should also make all attempts to make it the safest in the world as well. Exposed metal structure supports in a crash zone is very very poor planning.

I'll give no argument regarding the poorly laid out stanchions. It seems to me that most of the tracks in the Winter Olympics have been the "fastest" though. People don't want to go to the games and not see records fall.

They added 15-20 mph though. That's pretty significant of a jump.

That was an awesome game. Obviously I wish the outcome was the other way around but damn, what a game.

It was actually about 6mph... Still quite an increase though.

I mistakingly got that from this, but they did get close to 10 mph over the previous record.

Sports Illustrated's David Epstein, who is covering the Olympics for the magazine, told CNN's "Situation Room" that the Whistler course is the fastest in the world "and not by a little."

He noted that while most luge courses "flatten out" around the 11th turn, the Whistler track "just keeps on dropping, so there's really kind of no break from gathering speed toward the end."

Epstein said some athletes had been complaining about the speed of the course and speculating that this Winter Games could be the first time the sport sees a competitor hit 100 mph.

"That's 15 to 20 mph faster than any course in the rest of the world," Epstein said.

A track speed record -- and world speed record -- was recorded at Whistler on February 21, 2009, when a single men's luge athlete topped 95 mph during competition. American luger Tony Benshoof held the previous world speed record of 86.8 mph set in 2001.

The guy who died was going 88, so only a 1 mph faster than the previous fastest speed ever.

Sorry I'm late.. first time on a real computer in a week +.....

THAT was an absolutely amazing hockey game. Canada deserved to win, USA wasn't playing a solid consistent game. Obviously, I wanted USA to win - don't get me wrong - but I can't cry foul over it.

Miller was awesome... I hate Luongo on principle but he's a great netminder, and he did his job well.

The captain of my Dallas Stars has a gold medal... I can't be too upset about that :)
