Got a new digital camera today since my other one's lens got knocked out of alignment and it didn't make sense to repair it. I need my main camera to fit in a pocket pretty easily otherwise I won't use it. Especially because I like to bring it with me when I ride. I like it to have at least some of the features of a larger camera and have decent resolution. Well, I looked around a bit, and I've always been partial to Sonys (I have a DSC-V1 and the one with the knocked lens is a DSC-T7) and found their newest POWERHOUSE... the cybershot DSC-W300. This little bastard still maintains the tiny cybershot profile (looks to me like they use pretty much the same case as the 7 and 8 MP versions), but packs a TON of features and boasts a whopping 13.6 MegaPixels!!! Here are the stock photos:

So, that's the one I decided on, and just went today after work and bought it right away. On top of that, I smoothtalked the sales guy at Circuit City and got him to sell it to me for a decently lower price than he should have :)

Here it is:

I've been getting into photography a bit more the past several years and would like to get a nice SLR when funds allow it. For now, I can borrow a Nikon D70 from work and play with that whenever I get the itch.

No shit! That's the most important piece of info! I have the T200 with the 3.5 touch screen (or rather my bitch of an ex has it!). I've been looking at the T300 for $350 but I may just get the Fuji F50 12 meg or the Samsung 10 meg for under $200. All 3 have "face recognition" but you can change the focal point on the Sony by touching the screen. All of these cameras have a shit ton of features my dumb ass will never use!!! What I don't like about the Sony is having to use Memory Stick. I have a ton of SD cards and I saw a 4 mb at Sears for $20 the other day. Memory sticks tend to be more expensive in my experience.

I still have a 4 meg Fuji SLR I got "forever ago",what it lacks in megs,it makes up in optical zoom. Which is the whole point anyway, right? It's main problem is it's BIG and SLOW,just like me! If I'm not mistaken 35mm equates to only 3 or 4 megs,I've never been sure what the point/use of all those "extra" megs are. I understand they allow you to blow up the pic bigger but I get a good 8X10 with 3 or 4 megs, how big a picture are you trying to make? Heck,my biggest problem lately has been figuring out how to shrink pics so I can post or send them. Ahhh what am I talking about? Bigger is always better!:pat:

Yea my SLR stays on "A" at all times! Well.....I did try a few things when I first got it and tried to read the bible that came with it but I've decided that "A" is good enough for me. If I can't get a good picture in "A" mode then FUCK IT!!!

If I'm not mistaken 35mm equates to only 3 or 4 megs,

Ehhh.... yes and no.

it honestly comes down to what type of 35mm film you're using. Some lower ends, yeah... 3 or 4 can do it. in fact typically a good 3mp camera can produce a decent 4x6 print.... you need a lil' bit larger for an 8x10....

But for the higher end films.... like your Fuji or Reala expensive films, you're looking in the neighborhood of 20-22mp to match their quality....

BTW, gratz CEO! Now let's see some damn shots!!!!! Not sure if I'm bringing my lil' 350D to the rally or not, gotta put it in to get it cleaned so it might not make it out in time.

Eventually I want an SLR as well. I want to have a nice full manual camera, and then this one which I will use every day since it's easy to carry.

thats a damn nice camera, im hoping i can pick something up before the trip, but i only need 6-7 mp, not freaking 13. I've already got my 3mp phone camera though, so who knows.
The other thing is that the extra megapixels can act as extra zoom. Basically I require my camera to be small enough to carry, and as such 3x is the zoom level that is available on most cameras. But this takes such frigging huge pictures, I can practically triple that zoom level just with image resolution :dthumb:

Also, it has a Zeiss lens. Awesome.

The thing lists for $349, I got the guy at Circuit City to give it to me for $300. Basically sony was able to fit the new 13.6MP chip (just came out) into their cybershot casing that they use with their 7 MP (and one other I think) camera... I think that's why the cost stayed down. This camera is a STEAL even at the MSRP IMHO.
Yea my SLR stays on "A" at all times!
That's a waste of an SLR IMHO.

This camera has manual mode and for taking non-time-sensitive shots I will certainly take advantage of it.
BTW, gratz CEO! Now let's see some damn shots!!!!! Not sure if I'm bringing my lil' 350D to the rally or not, gotta put it in to get it cleaned so it might not make it out in time.

That's a pretty good deal. Have you priced the lense seperately to see if you're getting a deal for $230 more? If you can afford it, get the zoom lense, too. It's money. Also, check Amazon.com. That's where I got my Canon for a good price.

If you're still around...this camera is available for $286 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8589271&type=product&id=1190678016533 Btw Fuji cameras have a option that takes a pic with flash and then immediately takes a pic without.
