Well, if they did infringe on patents, they are gonna owe apple a lot.

Maybe they are, but it isn't necessary for the lawsuit Apple filed. HTC and Google could have sold one phone and they would still be subject to the same suit.

the iPhone really isnt dominating anything, its just got a cult following of retards willing to pay $600 for an ipod touch with phone/3g capabilities. its like all of crapples followers.
I'll keep my droid phone. I happen to enjoy it more anyhow.
bs or not, they are patents.
most of them were acquired without much research by the patent office, I am very suspect of what went on there. Especially the multi touch/pinch zoom thing. There are older devices that had the same thing before Apple. They should be overturned and should have never been allowed to be patented in the first place.

Hell, it's been in SciFi for decades, both in movies and literature.

If they counted sales of individual models rather than sales by brand I think the iphone would be the top. Either way I would guess Apple does dominate consumer smart phone sales, but RIM absolutely owns the business/corporate market.

A 16 GB iphone through AT&T is same price as Verizon charges for a droid. I doubt anyone cares that you hate the iphone, but you should probably hate it for actual reasons rather than ones you have made up.

So far I like my iphone, its very user friendly for someone like me who does not want to spend a lot of time learning how to use gadgets. I liked my hTC until the damned thing broke after a year and a half.. ( maybe I shouldnt' have dropped it so much?) They are all pretty much the same thing in the end.

Cut it anyway that you want; RIM owns the market at this point. Period.

This is Just a question. I know that Android and for that matter Palm Pre are based on Linux. After my wife and I experienced failures of our 3rd set of Pre's we switched to Iphones. The more I read the more the IPhone seem to have Linux like features as well anyone know for sure?

No, iphone OS is based off of Mac OS which is based on Unix. Linux and Unix have some compatibility though.

I think it does, the underlying architecture is completely different, but it acts and feels very much the same way, but it is built completley ass backwards.

The iPhone O/S is apparently referred to as "OS X iPhone." Since Mac computers use OS X, which id based on FreeBSD (a Unix/Linux derivative), that leads me to believe that the iPhone uses much the same.

they didnt try, they did it. But it only applies to marketing use, as far as I understand it anyway.

No, they ultimately failed. They were being fought by several other motorcycle manufacturers (Ducati and Honda, for sure), who also had used single crankpin engine configurations. IIRC the trademark application stated words to the effect, "The unique sound of a motorcycle engine, as characterized by a single crankpin design."

The thing that I find funny is that He's trying to patent things that seem to be "software" related... Like the pinch-zoom thing and the gesture search but that stuff has been on the market for quite a while... In fact, the old HTC pre-Touch phone let you write letters in for texts. I also think that he's trying to sue over touch screen which is silly! It would be like Sony suing Microsoft because their game has wireless controllers too...

Most of the touch panel technology was based on an existing student project. I haven't read the patents yet to understand how they were granted, but Apple has been open about not being the original creator of the technology.
Microsoft was promoting this the same year the iphone released. It's got multitouch and pinch to zoom.

This thread is more proof that there's more hate from non-Apple users onto Apple users, rather than the other way around.
And no, I don't own an iPhone.
Ya, but this is Steve Jobs. He had cancer once, and I bet he's got a patent pending on that too.
You get cancer, you owe jobs money.

From now on it is no longer known as the generic "cancer". At next year's MacWorld convention Steve Jobs will be unveiling the new Apple iTumor. To enhance the experience you will be able to log on to the app store and download the chemotherapy app. It will be billed as "The funnest iTumor ever!". Look for it in 2011!
