When the topic is about something that exudes massive power, it is best to believe someone with the last name of Norris.

"It's believed that the impact actually blew down the forests over most of North America from the pressure wave associated with the explosion," Norris said.

Not to mention: 24 mile deep crater (over 125,000ft. If you jumped in it, you'd be in free fall for ~12 minutes) and 15 million years for life remaining on earth to begin recovery.

WAY beyond comprehension.

Great, now I'll be up all night, worrying about Ninja Asteroids.

Somewhere in the universe, there are mad scientists designing stealth carbon fiber asteroids, so they can sneak up on us, and kill our dinosaurs.

The bastards.

I don't think it'll be very sneaky when it slams into the planet

It's like the old saying: Where does a bear shit in the woods? Anywhere it damn well pleases.

Couldn't "sneak up" on us, you say?

Don't make me list all the scenarios where something like this could "surprise" us. Just because we have telescopes and math doesn't mean we couldn't be caught almost as unaware as the Dinosaurs.

This isn't a new concept. I remember as a kid hearing about how an asteroid killed of the dinosaurs. So just like Hollywood, the news media is out of ideas now, so they reprint old news?

Reading comprehension fail. Color me shocked.

This is the first time the scientific community has agreed that only one asteroid killed them all. It was believed by many before that it would take multiple strikes to cause that kind of catastrophic loss. Or another event all together.

The researchers wanted to settle disputes about what killed off the dinosaurs. Some theories have argued that it would have taken many meteorites to cause such a cataclysmic event. Another rival theory suggested that the mass extinction was a result of a massive volcanic eruption in India that took place around the same time as the impact.

Only one asteroid is what I heard many years ago. Where did I stutter? Assumption FTMFL.

They didn't do this study for you, they did it for the members of the science community that didn't believe the theory. False sense of importance FTMFL.

That article wasn't printed as a new theory, but to announce the first time the scientific community agreed that's what happened. One asteroid. Not multiple, not a volcanic eruption, not a combination of events. One cataclysmic one.

If you get that, your posts in this thread don't make sense.

nah, if you are going that route, when xenu blew up the volcanos, filled with aliens brought here on DC-8s, with hydrogen bombs; I am guessing the dinosaurs died in all the fallout.

Xenu stopped by and picked up all the Dinosaurs before the asteroid hit.

They've been chilling out in a nearby solar system plotting their return.

Trip is right about one thing. They've been waiting until there is enough food here to warrant their return. There's nearly enough of us, they ougtta be here soon.

so very true I suppose. We spent a ton of the development time for early warning systems aiming large bombs at our own planet rather than "out there" where we should have been looking.
