if he was known to be suffering from psychological problems he shouldn't have been a cop. shouldn't be allowed to hold a firearm in WI.

We don't know. 18 mo. is a little harsh considering this punk probably didn't do any time at all and I'd be willing to bet he did something worse than punch someone in the face like drunk driving or something like that. Then again, common sense should be used. I've been in the back of a police vehicle and they had the blast heater going. I was beating on the window to get his attention, not to break it. Seems like this guy was doing the same. If he was trying to break the window, he'd have been hitting it hard not just knocking on it.

Agreed. I wasn't so much saying that this person needed to be hobbled, as I was that there was a viable alternative to beating on the guy if the officer felt that he needed to be stopped from kicking at the window.

Fuck that. If I punched a cop in the face I'd likely be in prison for a couple years, so this should be no different. Good to see at least one example of the legal system holding dirty fucking cops accountable for their actions.

As has already been said, I don't see any reason why this cop should receive a different punishment than I would for beating someone who is handcuffed. I also agree that whatever his background or history is doesn't matter. If he can't handle being a cop he shouldn't be a cop, and he is still responsible for not "handling" it.
