No disrespect intended or inferred but women that can handle large caliber handguns are few and far between. ( so guys suck at shooting too  )
If you can shoot that well, you will be number two of the women I know who can shoot hand cannons well. My friend Andi went out shopping for another pistol with her husband Mike and she picked out a S&W 500

Not offended, I'm new to the hand cannon game. I'm very curious, And digging it so far.
History, I was involved in a home invasion with a shot gun in my hands. I won. In a small space, a shot gun becomes similar to a baseball bat. I know.... they shouldn't get that close. Whatever. A room IS a small space. Maybe I'll tell you more one day.
My shot, with the. .45 colt... yes, that's a hole thru the side of it. I call it "beginners luck." I hit it 6 out of 10 shots at 20 feet-ish.

Just to add a 3rd woman that handles a large caliber well (not a hand cannon admittedly) My wife is quite proficient with my SW Performance Center Modle 29 V Comp 44 mag. (3 inch) My experience may be different but it is placing the first shot that counts. The flinch for most people occurs with the second shot

Good to hear you're enjoying it. I see you have a good reason for a large caliber too. Also very good to hear you came out on top.
I have a suggestion for starting to shoot with pretty much any weapon. Get yourself a large piece of cardboard as a target. 3' square works great.
You want to see where the bullets actually land when you shoot. No need to to put up a target on the cardboard at first, you're working on basic control. So every shot on the cardboard is good.
I would also find some light loads to start out with. Light bullets in the .45 long colt ( maybe even lead bullets if you don't mind the extra clean up work ). 20' is OK to start, 15' would be better. The main objective is building confidence. When you're shooting pie plate size groups, then put up a target.
Here's some of my handguns

That's the problem with you youngsters nowadays. Comfort and gadgets.
I'd rather have the M16A2's buttstock that's strong enough to crack some serious heads. The only accessory acceptable on a combat rifle is a bayonet.

I'd rather put a bullet into hajji before he gets close enough to need to worry about cracking him in the skull with my buttstock. And last I checked CCOs improve accuracy in close quarters combat significantly when it comes to reflexive fire (which, for the Joes who are the ones kicking down doors... isn't that what we want, greater accuracy?). Wherever that red dot is, that's where the bullet goes (assuming it's properly zeroed).
Is it cheating? Of course it is. Anyone can say that "iron sights are better" if you're beating your chest talking about how skilled you are, and you'd probably be right (in terms of overall skill). But when it comes to actual combat... If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin...
Besides, most of these insurgents are pussies and would rather blow you up while taking video from a mile away than actually fight you face to face. So, in this case gadgets (particularly optics, CREW systems, NVGs, etc.) win.

At close quarters, you don't even need reflex sights. Point and shoot from the shoulder work just fine. Tipped with a bayonet, if you run out of ammo, you'd cross the room and stick'em a lot faster than fumbling for a reload or trying to pull out a pistol. At longer distances, the red dots are too big for precision shooting. I see zero benefit for a red dot sight. A short scope like the ACOG is a different story, but to me reflex sights are worthless.
As far as if you're not cheatin', you're not tryin'...that's why God invented frags.

Ever been in CQC? Training or otherwise?
Second, have you ever used a CCO?
The CCO works wonders to help clear a room effectively. Point and shoot works with a shotgun, or a stationary target. Target running on the other side of windows/doorways is more easily taken out with some sight picture.
The ACOG is worthless in the same scenario, as the magnification throws off distance and makes it more difficult to acquire a close rapidly moving target.
It is great, however, for its intended purpose. In the hands of a trained Squad Designated Marksman, a M4/M16 with an ACOG can take out targets at a greater distance without need for a sniper rifle.
Next, collapsible but stock. True, fully extended, it may not be as durable as a solid stock, however, it is not nearly as versatile.
Wearing full battle rattle is very bulky, and todays combat environments are becoming more urban and close quarters orientated. The collapsible but stock gives the warrior more options to make his "tools" fit him/her better. Like they say, the most effective weapon is one that you feel comfortable with and fits you. With a solid stock, it is difficult to get the rifle into firing position while wearing all your gear. Further, when clearing rooms the added length is a hindrance.
These are my opinions. True, I am not "in the shit" per-say, but I have gone through all the same training, and have been dealing with/carrying these weapons for the last 9 months. Take it for what you will.

no benefit? With iron sights you have to line up three points: back, front sight, and target with your point of focus being the front sight. With a reflex or holo you only have two points: reticle and target and your focus is at the target. you also keep both eyes open with a cco which helps make picking up targets ungodly fast

That buckmark is a BLAST to shoot and super cheap for ammo. I think 550 rounds were $15. I can burn through $15 in less than 5 mins with my 9mm's. The BM has even killed a deer....granted it was at pointblank range to the top of the head (she had been hit by a car and was stugglin bad). .22's are fun.
I'm thinkin about a .22 LR rifle now for target shooting but I would also like to hunt on occation so I'm torn. If I go higher cal. ammo will go up in price like crazy. Wish there was a happy medium.

Guns are like tattoos.
Beautiful to some, menacing to others, and for those that get one...one is seldom enough. :dthumb:

Nice.. very nice.
Reminds me of the old Walther target pistols.
Probably a damn sight cheaper though.

I forgot. Only you young GIs have ever gone to war and had ever had trained on MOUT and fought in urban environment.

no benefit? With iron sights you have to line up three points: back, front sight, and target with your point of focus being the front sight. With a reflex or holo you only have two points: reticle and target and your focus is at the target. you also keep both eyes open with a cco which helps make picking up targets ungodly fast
With iron sight, at close combat distance, you shoulder the weapon and look over the rear sight and the front sight to form an aiming triangle. No need to crook the neck down and lose focus on peripheral vision.
But then I forgot that you guys are the only ones who had ever used optics, had ever trained on close combat and urban warfare. Yeah, back in my days, we were using muzzleloaders and marched in formation for mass firing.:skep:

I asked an honest question, which you clearly could not bring yourself to answer.
Further, believe it or not, sometimes technology does actually help.
I have used and trained with an M-16 and iron sights.
I have used and trained with an M-4 and both CCO and ACOG.
If I am going to be kicking doors and clearing rooms, and those are my choices, I'll take the M4 and CCO.
The M500 is preferable to both however, in that scenario.

I'll look at 'em when I get my AR after I'm home. Don't think I can convince my supply SGT to order me one

that would be very difficult  they are in the inventory (so is the MARS btw) but good luck getting them if you arent in a special unit

And when you're not kicking down doors (how many doors are there to kick in the mountains of Afghanistan), how useful is that reflex sight?
I'd take a short scope like the ACOG any time for general usage. For close range, you can easily triangulate by bracing the weapon against your shoulder and look over the top of it. How do you think that we shot fast at close range back in the days?

1. I don't know how many doors there are in Afghanistan, I am not there. The training that I went through is the same as the soldiers being deployed there, however, and we kicked many doors.
Here in Kosovo, we kick no doors, except in training. We are here on a peacekeeping mission. Currently we are doing presence patrols only, and minimizing our show of force as we downsize our numbers here in an effort to move out completely, and let the locals handle it themselves.
2. The reflex sight is still very useful, don't worry, I was skeptical at first as well, until I got to actually use it. Like previously stated, it is used with both eyes open, for quick acquisition of targets, and the red dot (turned down to a level to not wash out the target, in case you are worried about accuracy of too large of a red dot) is easy to put on target.
3. I agree the ACOG is a good piece of equipment, and has it's place. For the M-4 with a stated effective range of 500 meters it could be useful about 20% of the time in actual urban combat. It may be of more use in the mountainous Afghanistan terrain. I can not comment on that as I have not yet had the opportunity to serve there.
4. As for what you did "back in the day" I do not know. From your earlier posts I would say you went from poking people with sticks to eventually using your far superior open sights.
But I am just a young GI given the gov'ts current technology. Sorry.

never met one of those that i actually liked. Or that cycled properly
Mine's an original Israeli Arms not the Magnum research reproduction. I've never had a problem with the cycling. I've been told the .50 went to crap when they made everything interchangeable. It's the only one I've ever owned or fired so I don't really have anything to compare it to...:idk:
