Anyone ever visited this estate?

www.biltmore.com

I really want to go but $60 to get in seems steep. Not to mention I'd be on my bike so I'd have to carry my helmet and jacket around all day.

I didn't go in. The day we were there a tornado touched down on the grounds.

yes, it is way too steep a price.

It's possible to sneak into the back door though.

You can tour the grounds/garden/winery for free, the house is the only thing that costs money.

It's not worth it IMO. I hated it, but you may like it. My wife loves it, but she is an interior designer.

Well I'd actually like to just go and see it, I don't care to go in.

I'm travelling with about 15 other guys and the chances of getting them inside is pretty much slim to none. So even a ride out that way and then touring the grounds or just getting a look would be good.

How do I confirm you can tour the grounds for free?

You don't need to, someone from my family goes yearly. They like going for the christmas decorations. They have never charged for ground tours. It's all on your own. There is hiking all stuff, because it's a massive property. The driveway is very very long.

Cool thanks. I'll have to check it out.

Saw it on ' America's Castles'? On the History Channel or maybe Discovery. It didn't look 60 dollars fun to me...

It use to be like $25, then someone new bought it and built a huge hotel and winery. They have been gradually hiking the price for the past 10 years or so.

It's a place you take a high dollar woman you haven't banged yet, to get some.

Saw it probably 25 years ago, so don't remember much at this point.

I have been there...it's amazing inside and out. $60 amazing? Depends if you are into history. The tour is a long one because the house is so damn big.

Erik and I went there this past November for our anniversary. He had been there like 2-3 times before. It was beautiful. Our tickets were part of the lodge package we bought so they weren't $60. I think AAA has tickets for less as well, just make sure you get a reservation or you will be waiting ALL day to tour. We got to the estate at 11am, didn't tour until 3pm because we didn't have reservations.

You can view our pictures here - http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j197/racedoll/Vacation/

There are duplicates because Erik was bracketing some shots - most of them.

Was that a little cabin you stayed at? It looks awesome!

I've been there, through it, under it and in the attic. It cost a lot of money for the tour(s) and it was worth every penny. Plan on all day and comfortable shoes...
If you don't have a curiosity and interest, it probably isn't worth the cost and the walking. I do and it was. I went there 13 years ago and wouldn't mind seeing it again.

my 2cents..

Lol, getting 15 guys just to go there with you is going to be impossible. Most men just dont care for that shit. If you were half and half, you'd have a chance. But 15 guys and you, your outnumbered!

Ya I'm totally outnumbered. Might get one or two of the guys interested in the ride there. Honestly, I just want to ride to there and SEE it. I don't even care if I go in (since I know they won't).

They might if they can see the turbines and other cool behind the scenes stuff that was built with it to make it as modern as it was for it's time.

The technology in the place was one of my favorite things. Add the"behind the scenes" tour. There is some really cool shit in that house for the period.

Are there hidden passages in the house? I would think a mansion like that would have hidden staircases and hidden rooms. At least, if I owned one, it would!

yes there are secret passages and cool doors made to look like it's part of the wall.
