Just found out yesterday. Haven't been at a computer all week. Had to meet my girlfiend's entire family at a funeral...

Apartments.com I found several with just a cursory search...The garage will be your biggest obstacle I think.

Yeh that pretty much sounds like daves basement. Garage parking 15 minutes from philly, and it has a bar

Been looking there. I don't care if it's a garage- I'd be perfectly happy parking it in the living room.

Sounding better and better...
Now, I am going to crash. After a (successful!) job interview, philly touristing, a funeral, meeting the gf's family, a big fight, and driving 2000 miles/28 hours (since monday) I'm DONE. Tomorrow, I have to go to Pitt in the morning to fix baby brother's car. *sigh*

Just so you know, NJ is less than nice to people who carry firearms. Ammo that is legal in PA is ILLEGAL in NJ ( hollow points )

How long/how bad is rush hour? What are the tolls like between there and the Navy Yard? Looks like the fastest way would be down 76 or 76 and 95.

I've never felt the need anywhere I've been. If common sense and being 6'2" doesn't keep me out of trouble, I have martial arts training.
That said, I've been thinking about getting it. Not necessarily for self defense. I want to get into shooting, and a license would make things much easier when transporting. Reading up on it now, should be crazy simple. Go to the Sheriff with a couple numbers for reference and $25-ish dollars. Wait a few hours/days and it's done. As for no-carry zones... Schools, Courts, Casinos, Federal Buildings. I'll try to go to a dealer tomorrow for more info, but it's going to be a busy week.
 I must be slow, because I finally realized the other reason (besides a pathetic terrorist check) why I had to lift my jacket going into the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. And it's stupid that NJ, DE, MD don't recognize a PA license. Ah well, if I go to those states with it I just won't get caught.

Thats essentially it. Some counties, like mine, make you wait 2 weeks...other issue on the spot. But no Philly. The state law says they have to issue in 45 days or under...Philly PD doesn't care and they will wait months and months. So get it now before you move...even if you dont have a gun. You dont need a gun to get the LTCF.
And I seriously wouldn't carry concealed in states that don't honor PA's license. That ain't no joke if you get caught. Be careful.
Seriously, Philly can be a dangerous city. The locals will tell you where to avoid...like up around U Penn and Temple.

Wayne county (same county Detroit is in) is horrible in return. Takes 2-4months! Yet they have the same rule. 45days. They simply ignore it.
As far as regonizing in other states... always check. I do.
Most of the time you can check both states gov websites reciprocating ccw. But there are also maps.

It's also flat out illegal to charge more than $25 bucks for the license in this state. Many counties tack on "fee"...such as "picture fee", etc. It's illegal. I can cite the law that says so...but they just ignore and no one in the Guv does anything about it.

Yeah... Just got back. Without filing it. I completed everything else, but couldn't think of two people in the county I'm not related to. I know people all over cambria, bedford, and garrett- all the neighboring counties. I'll come up with something and go back tomorrow. Probably use the pastor and an old family friend, but I need to look up the info. And of course, the gun shop I stopped at on the way home was closed. Only one I know of that has handguns.

Stopped in the gun shop today. They have a bunch of little tiny autos, and a couple huge revolvers. Only one that felt decent to me was a Ruger SR9. I could actually get a good grip on it, and the sights come up nice with just a simple three-dot. I didn't care for how tough it was to move everything though. The slide seems to have a ridiculouly strong spring, and the safety switch is a bitch to move because t's so small and out of the way and stiff. Unless I held the mag release in, the magazine dragged going in or out. Unfortunately, I still don't know anywhere to rent to shoot.

I don't really like the thought of a safety I can't see. And I'd really like a metal frame... Just one of those difficult people
Something I found odd is that the SR9 had an interesting trigger safety thing... like the center part of the trigger has to be pulled in before the outside.

XDm has match grade barrel, changable backstrap, different slide serations, you dont have to pull the trigger to field strip it, different sights, among a couple other things.
And yeah, the they both have the trigger safety and the grip safety.

I zigzagged across most of the city today. Germantown/Mt. Airy/Manayunk (one of them or al three... I dunno where one ends and the other begins) was downright gorgeous. I'm not sure where this apartment is, but certain areas were definitely not as nice.
Darby was... frightening. One of the schools there, I really hope it's abandoned so no one has to go there. I think I'll steer clear of that apartment on Lindbergh. The apartment was nice, but go a block and I felt lke I need a tetinus shot just riding through.

Not sure when I'll make the first trip, but that should be the only one with really big stuff. Dresser, bed, desk, etc. Just have to coordinate with the landlord, since he wants to finalize the lease in person. I'm hoping for Tuesday or Wednesday, with the best weather.

Seriously though- Anyone free Friday evening or Saturday?
I'll provide drinks while we're moving, and dinner when we're done. I don't even have a big heavy couch  Just bed, dresser, desk, table, and some smaller boxes.

Damn, my ass hurts..
Just went to get renter's insurance. No problem there ($96/yr), but when the agent went to change the adress on my bike and truck the rates went through the roof! From around $600 on the truck to $2400 with the multiple policy discount! The bike went from $700-ish to $1500. Went to limited tort on the truck, and that brought it down a thousand. So all told I went from less than $1500 total insurance per year to $3000. Thank god there will be a delay before they take effect, or I'd be upside down big time.

Well, here I am posting from my work laptop from my apartment, with my cat rubbing around my legs and all the utilities in my name. Still getting unpacked, but nearly all my paperwork is done. My poor cat isn't sure what to make of things, but he's exploring the new place and enjoying himself. The gf has four interviews in two days next week, and just heard about them all today. I joined the softball team and tried Pho in South Philly. Pretty good stuff, actually, with some lime and basil and hot sauce. mmm Brisket Pho with their thick iced coffee (extra cream)- almost tasted like chocolate. Ran home last weekend to get the cat and rescue the girl and visit friends.
I swear, one of these days I'll sleep...

I may have been by that ikea the other day. Is there a Home Depot nearby? Went to a Pho house on... Washington?

Stopped by RevZilla today. Third Largest selection of real gear I've ever seen. Definitely more than Carlisle or the Cycle World shows- which are all pirate crap. Right there behind Indy MotoGP and whichever store is in Ohio.
The employees are really helpful, and I saw at least one customer drop over $1500 on a two-piece, gloves, etc. Lots of Dainese and A* there, and even the scooter chick GoGo stuff. As I was leaving I saw a 1200GS and Daytona 675 had pulled in beside me.

Where were they? The new place... well, the inside is nice. It's basically under an I95 overpass, and that fenced off alley (with the barbed wire) between the buildings is probably two feet high with garbage. The front door looks like somebody ran into it or tried to kick it in. And for whatever reason, they have to come and open the inner door from the inside. I'll be back though. It's the only place I've seen with more than one one-piece (that someone ordered and never paid for) on the rack.
