Hey guys, this probably isn't much to you experienced long distance riders, but circumstances have arisen that require me to ride from outside chicago to Denver! Ok I shouldn't really say require but I have to get there and what better way than on the bike!! my wife thinks flying would be better and safer but after a short discussion she understands why I want to do it. Im pretty excited because Ive never really gone that far. I have put in several 8-10 hour rides but they were always loops and stuff so I never got REAL far from home. I think I got everything I need and should be good to go. Leaving thursday morning. so wish me luck.

Speaking as someone who moved from MI to CO......

Ugh.

With the exception of Iowa's rolling hills, it's ALL boring.

The WORST part is Nebraska/Kansas and the eastern half of CO.

Just ugh.

Take some No-Doz.

Good luck. Wear earplugs, drink water often, stretch out your gas breaks to 15 minutes or so to give yourself time to stretch every 150 or so miles, and let us know when you get there.

It's right at 1000 miles. I'm assuming you'll do it in 2 days? I've done that in one day a few times, but it's not for the inexperienced for sure. Be sure to stop BEFORE you think you need to. If you wait until you need to, you waited too long.

I've crossed the plains numerous times. The way to do it (if you have the time), is take the secondary highways... like U.S. 24, 36, 136, 50, etc. Enjoy the small towns, the country diners, the historical markers, etc. If you super slab it and fight with the 18 wheelers and wind, the quality of the ride goes :td: real fast.

Temperature was in the upper 70's today and will be the same tomorrow. Thursday will be 30's and snow which will probably be in Iowa by Friday or Sat. If you have time to ride in Denver, send me a PM. I ride almost every day.
