been thinking over the last couple days that id like to make some new grips for my autococker. Unfortunately, its the newer sr frame which does not use the 1911 style frame so off the shelf stuff is out. Mostly wondering if anyone had fashioned grips out of wood or had made a cast to mold new rubber or acrylic. i have a few ideas for both routes, not sure which way to go. Thanks in advance

Make a mold from silicone, then cast it with plaster from a craft store. You will make adjustments and customize it, so this will give you the ability to repeat and change very quickly. This is the way we made alot of stuff that wed couldnt afford or find. You can find rubber or epoxy to final cast.

i kinda figured if i went this way id mount the stockers to a board and use them to make the mould. Just not sure i can get good enough at it to make special designs. Also the left side has to have a window for the OLED display and maybe one for the selector switch (covered by the oem)

If you follow the directions you should be able to cast one, add or remove material, tailor the fit and make or fill cavaties. I had some casting instructions and what not around, I will look for them. The process pops up in weird places. Here are a couple of things to look at.

Compressed denim and expoxy, and the cool thing is that you can use any color denim you want (or any type of fabric really).

For a one off
I "Pull a Plug"
Smear the frame with a release agent ( I have seen this done using saran wrap) push your resin soaked fiber into the frame let one side set before make the other side. Mark and drill your attachment points (some time easier to do from the inside) Build the plugs with enough extra material that they can be sanded, checkered or stippled to taste. If you want wood you can pull an low profile epoxy plug. then epoxy wood to the plug and you are free to form it in any fashion you like. I have also see great result using scraps of Corian Countertop material It required some extra polishing but damn it looked great

I'd be a very nice tan color if I lived down there and just got back from FL too. But instead I'm in OH and pretty tan compared to quite a few others around this area.

You never did answer my other question... :tt:
