Now http to his router (usually 192.168.1.1 ), and lock Andrew out
The default username/password is usually admin/admin

Although it would be fun to do that, Andrew would realize there is a problem and would probably use a basic secure network.
Then no free internet for derf :td:

Stealing internet is a crime punishable by death.
Stealing internet is crime punishable by death.
i hardly consider making use of a resource that another individual has made zero attempt to protect "stealing" especially if that resource "leaked" onto my property

I'm not going to go into the whole debate on stealing..but if you left you car door open with the keys in it and someone took it, same thing?
Besides I was only joking..if you didn't see the sarcasm.

that analogy works only if your potential thief brings it back when he is done using it. im not taking his property, im making use of it  and yeah i saw the sarcasm
If you live in an apt complex then you probably don't even have to pay for internet access! SOOOO many people are complete morons when it comes to something that should take 2 minutes to setup. It's not that hard to figure out.

Yeah I don't understand why so many people have a wireless router anyway. If you live alone in some dinky apartment, what's the point?

Not having to trip over cables all the time.

Not having to trip over cables all the time.
If it's a desktop that stays in one place, the cable would never be tripped over. If on the other hand you have a laptop that you want to move around, or you want to send stuff to your TV, then I can see the point of wireless. But most people just have a desk with a PC and printer sitting on it, and that's the extent of their tech.

Far more people are buying notebooks these days. Desktops are passé for the majority of people who aren't gamers, in my experience. Why be tied to one locations, when you can use something everywhere?

Because "most" people aren't very techie.........You guys are outside the norm. You're also forgetting all the older people. If a person over 65 has a computer, it's most likely a desktop.

My 68 year old mother is asking for my recommendations regarding a notebook or netbook. You may be under estimating older people.

First of all how many people do you think have a desktop computer that go out and setup a wireless network without knowing what it is or without needing it? I can't see any doing that.
I have wireless setup and then switched internet providers. When I came home my router wasn't hooked up, it was because the new one has a built in wireless router. So if someone uses the same company for internet then they could have a wireless network without needed one.

My 79 year old great uncle recently got a laptop to replace the laptop he had for 6 years. Unfortunately since he had a stroke a couple years ago he can't remember shit about how to use a computer so I have to function as phone support every few days.
Something to keep in mind on wireless is the DSL modems that Verizon provides in at least some parts of the country have a wireless router built in.

Fortunately those wireless router/DSL modems are set up with fairly good encription, by default, and a massively long WEP or WPA key.
