Yep, Apple is saying "not all features are compatible...". Multitasking will only work on the 3GS, 3rd gen touches, and newer hardware.
ass backwards and upside down. Toys for idiots

This is why competition is a good thing, it makes everybody raise their game. The iPhone is still dominant but Android keeps gaining market share and putting pressure on them to add features.
BTW I had a chance to play with an iPad today its pretty damn nice

And yet, backgrounder lets me multitask everything on my 3G with jailbreak. Fail. The most important thing I was looking for, WHERE THE FUCK IS TETHERING?

AT&T won't be giving you that anytime soon, I bet. I'm pretty sure we're the only country that can't do it with the iPhone, too.

no kidding, AT&T can barely keep their network afloat without it. I can't imagine what would happen to it with tethering as a standard feature.

my 3G has taken a beating so it will probably get replaced with a refurb'd 3GS over the next couple months. It would be nice to be able to muti-task.

What is tethering?
What is tethering?
when you hook up another device (like a laptop) and use the phone as a modem.

Oh. Seems useless to me.

eh, it can be helpful if you have a laptop and want to surf and don't have wifi nearby, but you do have cell service. I plan to use it a lot when I go on my cross country trip.

I'm sure its useful to people, but probably wouldn't be for me.

I have a wireless card from verizon :)
I have a wireless card from verizon :)
yeah, thats useful too, but it would cost some of us more where tethering is free.

Two words:
Road Trips.

That works too but you're paying ~ $50/month vs free to $10 for tethering.

Never had a problem finding wifi...or I just use my BB. Certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
iPhone 4G should be released sometime this summer too.

You still can't actually talk on a phone while you're tethering, right?

It's like an Iphone on steroids. Safari on the Ipad is a lot like Google Chrome-pages instead of tabs. Typing on the flat surface is very easy-plus you get auto spell included as you type. It's really fast. D/L happen in a blink. Racing games are awesome-hold the Ipad and drive using the Ipad as a wheel. Printing will be a PITA until I get a wireless printer. Flash isn't supported-so certain sites I visit are a no no. If you have a large Itunes database, you need to let it sync overnight-but now I have all my pics and music on a large easy to use screen. Video has no lag. This will do exactly what I bought it for-travel distraction. A 10-12 hour battery life ain't bad either.

I can still talk on my phone while tethering. As for the verizon aircard or whatever, I already pay for a cellular data plan. Why should I pay for another device and more data bandwidth from the same company when the technology is already in my possession? With my jailbreak tether I can set my iPhone up as a wifi hotspot and run my laptop as well as a wifi printer off the network it generates. That should be standard. Just because ATT can't make a decent network run worth a shit I don't see why consumers should suffer and pay exorbitant fees for something the phone already does and is offered in other countries.
