View Full Version : Just a question about selling

We put my Gs up for sale. I figure when I am ready to get back into riding after a few years of baby duty I can get myself a new bike instead of having to pay for storage until then ( no garage darned it!)

My question is this.. when you sell a bike what do you do about people wanting to take it for a ride. Insurance wise I am not comfortable with a total stranger riding my bike.

Cash in your hand while they ride. No exceptions. They wreck it, they just bought it.

If I don't know you: Cash in hand = test ride.

Especially on a bike like that, it shouldn't be too hard to scarpe together a few grand.

Absolutely. Any exceptions and you're asking for trouble.

This right here plus a signed form stating as much before they go on the test ride. Otherwise, no test rides. :idk:

I had a "you break it you bought it" paper written up and signed by the test rider that bought my SV650. This time around, I'm keeping it simple. No test rides.

I feel them out. When I sell bikes, I sometimes let them test ride it. Then again, most of my bikes aren't sport bikes.

ALWAYS I've never sold a bike or bought one (during a private sale) where I was not carrying. Too much cash involved and we know there are shady people out there.

A guy wants to come and look at it on Thursday, husband is not going to be home. I am going to ask a friend to be over when this guy comes. About the gun... well this is Canada and although hubby has one in the basement somewhere locked up I think I will leave it where it is.

I dont trust anyone enough to give them my bike with a cheque. ha ha..cashiers cheque or $$ only.

We took off the plate so we have a good excuse for not letting someone ride it. I haven't had a chance to tell my husband about your answers on this thread.

Right.

My 12 year old could probably Photoshop a pretty good one and print it for a sale. Cash is now king.

one last thought I usually have them meet me down the road. No sense showing them where the bike is while I'm at work.

Its going to be easy when (if) I sell the ZX-11.
Its not registered.
There's no plate.
Its not insured.

If you want to test ride it then you are gonna have to buy it.

Yep, I would never let a person checking out my bike to know where I live or work.

What happened? The test ride was uneventful. The buyer purchased the bike, then wrecked it on his way home.

Why not just sell it now, if you're not riding it?

I haven't gotten around to cleaning it up yet. Like to give it a proper clean and wax prior to putting it on the market. Get some of the grime off the wheels and swing arm. Take off the body work and really give it the once over.

Well don't you just love it when people don't bother to show up when they say they are.... not that it is a surprise.. oh well.

I flew to get my surprise so I was pretty much buying it no matter what. No test ride, hell I've never even sat on one (sat on a 650r). Just went by reviews and mordeth13 vids (ya, I know he has a 650r & not er6n). I knew the 650r was a good bike, but didn't know how different the ER-6N was. Hell rode it almost 500 miles before reaching home so I'm stuck with her if I like her or not. LOL
